LAKEVILLE, IN
-- When Steve Kinser gave Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. their first-ever Pennzoil World of Outlaws (WoO) Championship in 1999, some thought it was a fluke. Then, in 2000 the combination of Hoosier tires and the world's best sprint car teams won over 64% of the contests in sprint racing's elite series. By the time Danny Lasoski won the WoO title last year, the Hoosier connection was obviously not a fluke. In fact, the top four Outlaw drivers in points in 2001 all competed on Hoosier tires. And now Team-Hoosier is looking ahead to the Outlaws season opener this Friday in California and a run for a possible third consecutive crown in 2002. If the results enjoyed by
sprint car teams
using Hoosier tires in Florida during Speedweeks is any indication, a third title may not be that far away.
Team-Hoosier was undefeated in sprint car action during the 2-week
span. The
recently completed Speedweeks resulted in some pretty
impressive statistics for Team-Hoosier.
Hoosier-shod cars set fast time at every event during All
Star Speedweeks. Cars using Hoosier rubber won an astounding 34 of 35 heat
races. To cap it off, all eight A-main winners (Lance Dewease-3, Tim
Shaffer-2, Kasey Kahne-1, Danny Lasoski-1, Paul McMahan-1) were also
members of Team-Hoosier. In Okeechobee, FL at
Thunder Cross Motorsports Park, Team-Hoosier also went undefeated in four
nights of sprint racing action. Kevin Thomas won the non-wing opener with
Gary Wright posting victories the next three nights to complete the clean
sweep by Hoosier-shod cars. The 2002 Florida Speedweeks
results will go down in Hoosier record books as the best in the company's
history. Team-Hoosier will look to build on the momentum gathered in
Florida heading into Friday's Pennzoil World of Outlaws opener in
California. Hoosier Open Wheel Dirt Product Manager Neil Cowman commented
about the Florida results and upcoming season, "Florida was awesome
and we're really looking forward to another
Outlaws season in hopes of capturing a third consecutive series
crown." Cowman continued, "We know the competition will be
bringing everything they've got, but then again, so will we." Competition
begins this Friday at Kings Speedway in Hanford, CA. |
