HURRICANE
MILLS, TN (August 15, 2009) -- It was the stuff movies are about. Entering the
final event of the season ranked second, Randy Shilling battled his way back
from a mid-season shoulder injury to win at Loretta Lynn's Ranch to claim the
AMA ATV Motocross Championship in the 4-Stroke A class.
After winning the first two events of the year, the Winona, IN
rider suffered a dislocated shoulder while in the lead at Walnut, IL.
After sitting out the next two events, he came back from the
injury to win the final two events of the year and claim the overall
national title by a margin of just eight points.
It was just last year that Randy was helping Hoosier develop
its new ATV MX tires.
With his feedback, Hoosier was able to quickly hone in on just what was
needed to put the purple tire brand atop the podium.
This season, Randy ran exclusively on the new product line and the results
were immediate to say the least.
After having never won a national event, Randy won the season opener at Mill
Creek Raceway on the new Hoosiers and followed that up with a win at Bowling
Green, KY.
It appeared he was going to dominate his class when he suffered a shoulder
separation when another rider landed on top of him while leading in the 4th
race of the season.
But after just two events, he was back riding his Honda ATV once
again.
The next few events Randy spent getting back in shape in an effort to vie
for the overall class title.
Randy came back to win at Red Bud in Michigan and entered the last race of
the season in second place in the overall standings.
He would need to finish up front in the final event at Loretta Lynn's to
have any chance at the national championship.
At Loretta Lynn's, Randy finished 2nd in his first moto and 1st in his final
moto to claim the overall win at the event.
The win also propelled him into the overall lead in the 4-Stroke A class to
win the AMA ATV Motocross Championship title.
