KAUKAUNA,
WI (June 7) -- Defending NASCAR RE/MAX Challenge Series Champion Steve
Carlson made it two-in-a-row Friday night winning the
Oneida Bingo & Casino 250 after starting ninth. Carlson collected
$9,350 in prizes and awards for his first place finish. Coming off his victory last week at Colorado National Speedway,
the West Salem, WI driver led the
final 121 laps of the 250-lap event to capture the win at the D-shaped
1/2-mile Wisconsin International Raceway.
The 26-car field was led to the starting line by 1999
RE/MAX Champion Brian Hoppe on the pole and Justin Diercks alongside.
Hoppe jumped out to the early race lead before Scott Hansen took over
the lead on lap 70 after a caution period. Hansen gave way
to Ryan Hansen on lap 126. Hansen's lead would last only four circuits
before Steve Carlson moved into the race lead on lap 130. Carlson led
the remainder of the distance for the win. His margin of victory was
2.327 seconds over Brian Hoppe. Rounding out the top three was Kevin
Cywinski. Cywinski started 13th en route to his third place finish.
Eight drivers finished the race on the lead lap. Paul
Menard, Terry Baldry Justin Diercks, Jeff Kendall and Tim Rothe
finished fourth through eighth completing the list of lead-lap
finishers.
Ryan Hanson won the Bud Pole Award with a time of
20.050 seconds (89.776 mph) around the 1/2-mile oval.
Steve Carlson moved into first place in the series
standings with 841 points. Brian Hoppe is in second place with 799
points. Eddie Hoffman dropped to third place after a disappointing
22nd place finish.
The next stop for the series is June 29, at Lake
Geneva Raceway in Wisconsin for the 4th annual Al Schill, Jr. Memorial
150.
