OREGON,
WI (August 24) -- Justin Diercks captured his second career NASCAR
RE/MAX Series win after taking the Howie Chaussee Automotive 250 at
Madison International Speedway on Saturday. The exciting race had nine
lead changes among eight different drivers before Diercks took the
checkered flag.
Twenty-four cars took the green flag on the Madison
International Speedway 1/2-mile. Justin Diercks started on the pole
with Pete Moore alongside.
The race leaders were: Pete Moore (lap 1), Ron Breese,
Jr. (2-7), Brian Hoppe (8-73), Steve Carlson (74-165), Ryan Hanson
(166-179), Steve Carlson (180-188), Tim Schendel (189-195), Eddie
Hoffman (196-197), Justin Diercks (198-250).
The 250-lap race had just 4 caution periods for a
total of 38 laps.
Diercks collected $6,550 for the win, while Eddie
Hoffman pocketed $4,775 for finishing in second. Six drivers finished
the race on the lead lap. Tim Schendel took third place after starting
16th. Ron Breese, Jr., Josh Vadnais and Brian Hoppe rounded out the
list of lead-lap finishers.
Diercks won by 5.181 seconds.
Steve Carlson remains atop the NASCAR RE/MAX Series
standings with 1815 points. Brian Hoppe is in second with 1763
markers. Eddie Hoffman, Jon Lemke and Justin Diercks round out the top
five in the standings.
The next event on the series schedule is a September
29th stop at Elko Speedway in Elko, MN. The series now has just three
events remaining on their 2002 schedule.
