FONTANA,
WI (January 5) -- West Salem, Wisconsin's Steve Carlson was honored
Saturday evening at the Abbey Resort for winning the NASCAR RE/MAX
Challenge Series 2001 championship. It was Carlson's second
consecutive series crown and third in four years. Since 1990, Carlson
has finished either first or second in the series point standings
while capturing seven overall titles. Carlson started the 18-race
season strong, winning the first three events and going on to win
eight races overall en route to the series crown. But it was
consistency that once again proved to be the formula for Carlson's
championship in 2001. In 18 races, Carlson finished in the top five in
17 events while finishing in the top ten in all 18 contests.
Hoosier
product manager Terry Newton attended the event and joked, "To
save us some money, maybe Steve would let us just re-embroider the
year on the Hoosier champion's jacket presented each year!"
Newton continued, "But seriously, Steve is a great driver who
deserves all the credit and awards he received tonight. What he has
been able to accomplish over the years is nothing short of
amazing." Rounding out the top five was Brian Hoppe in second
place, 179 points behind Carlson. Ron Breese, Tim Schendel and Eddie
Hoffman finished third through fifth respectively. Hoosier Racing
Tire Corp. was proud to be the exclusive tire supplier to the NASCAR
RE/MAX Challenge Series during 2001 and looks forward to a successful
2002 racing season. |
