Twenty-five
of the 52 race starters competed in the DP class. The defending race
champions Max Angelelli and Wayne Taylor won the pole for the Brumos
Porsche 250 with a time of 1:45.425 seconds (121.565 mph).
The race featured 10 different race leaders with Butch Leitzinger
moving into the lead with 23 laps remaining in the 70-lap race.
Leitzinger, along with co-driver Elliott Forbes Robinson, went on to
capture the win. It was Leitzinger's 11th overall Rolex Series win. It
was also the fifth different winner in the first seven Rolex races
contested this season.
When asked about his tires, Forbes-Robinson stated, "The
tires were good. The tires were really good. As a matter of fact, I
was surprised we ran 42 laps on a set of slicks and turned our fastest
lap a couple laps before we came in. The tires stayed in and we were
really good the whole time."
Finishing in second place (5.539 seconds behind the race winners)
was the No. 10 SunTrust Racing Pontiac Riley driven by Max Angelelli
and Wayne Taylor. Taylor commented, "I'm just ecstatic. We're
delighted with Pontiac and our Hoosier tires."
Finishing in third place was the No. 66 Krohn Racing TRG Pontiac
Riley driven by Jorg Bergmeister and Max Papis.
NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers Bobby and Terry Labonte finished in 15th
place (overall), while Kyle Petty finished in 17th place and Tony
Stewart finished in 22nd place.
