GLEN, NY (August 13) -- After Friday's historic announcement that
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. would be the exclusive tire provider for
both the Rolex Sports Car Series and Grand-Am Cup Series
through the 2007 season, the Grand American Road Racing Association
contested the annual Sahlen's 200 at The Glen. It was the eighth event
on the series' 12-race schedule. In the SGS class, which already runs
exclusively on Hoosier tires, John Littlechild and Spencer Pumpelly
captured their first class win of the year driving the No. 37 TPC
Racing Porsche GT3 Cup. Hoosier President and CEO Bob Newton attended
the event and was on hand for the press conference announcing the
ground-breaking three-year agreement between the Grand American Road
Racing Association and Hoosier Racing Tire Corp.
The Rolex Sports Car Series race held Friday afternoon
attracted 33 teams with 10 teams competing in the SGS class. The race
experienced both wet and dry conditions with John Littlechild and
Spencer Pumpelly claiming the SGS class win while finishing 16th
overall. The duo was followed by Marc Bunting and Andy Lally who, for
the third event in a row, finished in second place--17th overall.
Bunting and Lally also drive for TPC Racing driving the Porsche GT3
Cup No. 38 car. Joe and Will Nonemaker finished in third place (20th
overall) driving the No. 43 Orison-Planet Earth Motorsports Porsche
GT3 Cup RS.
With their eighth consecutive podium finishes, Marc
Bunting and Andy Lally continue to lead the SGS class points battle
heading into the final four events of the season.
The Grand American Road Racing Association will return
to Homestead-Miami Speedway, September 10-12, where both the Rolex
Sports Car Series and the Grand-Am Cup Series will be in action.
