TOPEKA, KS (October 9-15, 2006) -- Each year, the highlight of the season for
road racers throughout the country is the annual SCCA Runoffs. This year, the
43rd annual SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) Runoffs were contested for the
first time at the newly renovated Heartland Park Topeka. Over 700 drivers,
using eight different tire brands, battled it out to determine National
Champions in 25 different classes. When the last race was over, no other tire
brand had more championship wins. In all, Hoosier-shod drivers captured 11
national titles. The 11 wins were a new record for the Indiana-based company.
That is,...until next year.
National Champions on Hoosier tires at this year's SCCA Runoffs included;
Hans Peter (C Sports Racing), Don Knowles (Showroom Stock B), Pete Taylor
(Showroom Stock C), Mark Mercer (Sports 2000), Steve Oseth (Formula Vee), Mirl
Swan (Formula Atlantic), Lance Knupp (Touring 1), Brian Golay (Formula 500),
Thomas Schwietz (Formula Ford), Rick Gilhart (Touring 3) and Chuck Mathis (G
Production).
In addition to the 11 wins, Hoosier-shod drivers also captured 8 runner-up
and 9 third place finishes. The stellar results were due, in part to,
the continuous development of the Hoosier road racing and wet tire lines--both
of which were used at the event that saw both rain and sunshine during the
7-day event. Like the slicks, Hoosier rain (wet) tires were dominant
and swept first, second and third in the Formula Atlantic class. Mirl Swan
(above photo) was
the winner with David and Keith Grant taking second and third, respectively,
using Hoosier rain tires. Hoosier Racing Tire sent a handful of engineers and
support staff to assist customers during the event. Trackside sales and service
was provided by Dave Garner and his staff from Hoosier Tire
Midwest-Plymouth. Tim Gilvin, one of the Hoosier Racing Tire
representatives at the event commented, "The competitors faced a wide
variety of weather conditions during this year's Runoffs. Drivers competed in
both sun and rain as well as in cold and windy conditions. Whatever the
conditions, the Hoosier tires were up to the task carrying 11 drivers to
National Championships." Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. congratulates all the
winners at the 2006 Runoffs and wishes to thank all the drivers who trusted
Hoosier tires as their brand of choice during the competition. For
