LAKEVILLE,
IN -- Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. and the Southern Midget Racing
Series (SMRS) announced today that Hoosier will be the spec
tire for all SMRS events in 2002. Hoosier will supply the same
tire sizes and compound options as the recently announced USAC
Midget National agreement to the SMRS competitors. The 2002 SMRS
schedule currently is comprised of 17 different race dates, with
more dates to be added. The series races in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri
and Nebraska. The highly competitive series is comprised of some
of the country's finest midget racers. In fact, many travel to the
annual Chili Bowl to test their skills against drivers like Tony
Stewart, Danny Lasoski and Sammy Swindell.
Hoosier Open Wheel Dirt Product Manager Neil Cowman commented
on the agreement, "We could not be more pleased with our
agreement with SMRS to provide a cost-effective tire with the same
sizes, compounds and prices as their USAC counterparts."
Cowman continued, "This agreement will bring even more
continuity and parity to midget racing throughout the
country."
John Stewart, president of SMRS, commented, "I am just
grateful to Hoosier for their interest and involvement in our
series. Hoosier showed a willingness to help us grow our series in
the years to come."
Hoosier Manager of Contract Sales Irish Saunders also commented
on the agreement, "The number of midget sanctioning bodies
throughout the country who have committed to providing a cost
effective and competitive tire to their participants is nothing
short of amazing." Saunders added, "I believe they
recognized the difficult economic times we currently find
ourselves in and wanted to do their part to reduce the cost of
racing to all their competitors."
The Hoosier Distributor handling the servicing of the series in
2002 will be Hoosier Tire Southwest based in Balch Springs, Texas.
Hoosier Tire Southwest's Tom Lorenz, who was instrumental in the
agreement reached with the series, can be reached at 1-972-289-RACE
(7223). Tom stated his plans are to have one of his dealers
service all of the events.
The Southern Midget Racing Series kicks off their season on
March 30th at Creek County Speedway in Kelleyville, OK. For more
