ASHEBORO, NC (March 26, 2005) -- Teddy Christopher won the inaugural NASCAR
Whelan Southern Modified Tour event Saturday after starting 11th in the 21-car
field. The NASCAR Modified Tour regular traveled south from his Plainfield, Connecticut
home to compete in the series' first-ever event. Christopher led the final 85
laps in the 150-lap race earning $1,825 for his efforts. Jay Foley finished in
second place after starting on the outside pole. Jamie Tomaino wound up third
after starting back in 18th place.
Drivers leading during the race included; Jay Foley
(1-26), J.R. Bertuccio (27-37), Jay Hedgecock (38-65) and Teddy Christopher
(66-150). The race was slowed for cautions six times for a total of 27 laps.
TIRES: All the competitors used Hoosier
27.0x13.0-15 M45 tires on their right side and 26.0x13.0-15 M30 on their left
sides. Per the rules, competitors raced on the same tires they qualified
on--with no tire changes during the race.
Quote from Hoosier Open Wheel Asphalt Product
Manager Irish Saunders: "Ted is one of those drivers that can
just about step into any pavement car and come out with good results and (car
owner) Roger Hill's equipment is second to none."
Quote from Teddy Christopher: "Those
M45's are awesome. We ran some of our fastest laps at the end of the race and
the tires looked like new. Hoosier has done their homework on these tires and I
can't wait to run them again."
The new NASCAR Whelan Southern Modified Tour
currently has a 13-race schedule with its next race slated for April 2nd, at
Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, NC.
