LAKEVILLE,
IN -- After a long period of speculation and anticipation, it was
announced last Friday at 5:00pm on the Indianapolis Speedrome's
website that Hoosier was selected as the exclusive tire provider to
the 1/5-mile asphalt oval. The announcement between Hoosier and
Checkered Flag Enterprises LLC, was made following a week-long
countdown on the track's website--www.speedrome.com.
The announcement marks the first time in the track's history that
"pure" racing tires will be used as the track's
"spec" tire for its weekly stock car racing in the Late
Model, Stock and Modified classes. In past year's, retreads were used.
Competitors at the Speedrome can look forward to next season when they
will be competing on "Tires Designed for Champions" which
have been engineered specifically for on-track competition.
Racing is scheduled to begin at the famous Indianapolis oval on
April 4, 2004. It will be the 63rd season of racing at the facility.
Hoosier Racing Tire's Irish Saunders, who was instrumental in the
signing, will be available at that time to the offer his 20+ years of
tire knowledge and experience to competitors at the Speedrome.
Saunders commented on the agreement, "We are extremely pleased
to have been selected by the Checkered Flag group to provide true race
tires to its weekly competitors in 2004." Saunders added,
"Hoosier and speed have always been synonymous so, Hoosier and
the Speedrome was an obvious natural fit."
Competition at the Speedrome includes
Late Models, Stocks, Roadrunners, Hornets and Bomber Figure 8’s.
Next season, USAC Racing will return for "Open Wheel
Wednesday" which will include USAC Regional Midgets, Ford Focus
Midgets and Kenyon Midgets.
Opening day for Open Wheel Wednesday
at the Speedrome is schedule for May 5, 2004. According to the
Speedrome's website, the new Hoosier tires coupled with a new track
surface in 2004 promises to be the "fastest year ever and all
track records are expected to fall." The Speedrome is located at
the intersection of Kitley & Brookville on Indy's Southeast side
