BARBERVILLE,
FL (February 11) -- On Wednesday night, Rick Eckert won the third of
six races sanctioned by U.M.P. Super Late Model Series at Volusia
Speedway Park. The event drew 63 Late Model racers to the popular
1/2-mile track. Eckert, using a Hoosier M10/M30 (left rear/right rear)
combination, was followed to the stripe by Jackie Boggs (M10/M20),
Darryl Miller (M10/M10), Shannon Babb (M30/M30), and Kyle Berck
(M10/M30). Greg Johnson, Robby Blair Duke Whiseant, Dennis Erb and Vic
Coffey rounded out the top ten. The U.M.P. Modifieds were also in
action with Jimmy Owens posting his second win in as many nights as
the sanctioning body will contest eight races at the Volusia track.
Owens won over Scott Orr, Steve Wetter, Gary Clark, Russell Childress,
Craig Thatcher, Jim Shereck, David McWilliams, Don Kigar and Gary
Archambault. Jimmy Owens joined Gary Barker (2/6, 2/9) as the only
repeat winner so far in the series at this year's Winternationals at
Volusia. Other winners include Ron Barker (2/5), Brian Wolfmeier
(2/7), and Craig Thatcher (2/8). The U.M.P. Modifieds will take
Thursday off before their finale on Friday evening. Hoosier Racing
