ROSSBURG,
OH (September 8) -- Scott Bloomquist continues to shine in late model
competition, as the Mooresburg, Tennessee hot-shoe captured the
100-lap World 100, at famous Eldora Speedway Saturday night. Over 200
of the country's finest dirt late model drivers descended upon
Eldora's 1/2-mile oval hoping to take home the $34,000 to-win top
prize. Bloomquist, the defending United Dirt Track Racing Association
champion, led the final 75 laps en route to picking up the hefty
winner's check.
Two hundred twenty four drivers were on hand
for qualifying in which 1997 UDTRA champion, Billy Moyer, set fast
time after turning a lap in 16.853 seconds. Six preliminary heat
races narrowed the 224 field down to the 24-car starting grid. The six
heat race winners were R.J. Conley, Kevin Claycomb, Delmas Conley, Dan
Schlieper, Jim Curry and Terry Phillips. In the 100-lap main event,
it was heat winner, Jim Curry, taking the early race lead. Curry led
the first 25 laps before Scott Bloomquist, in Miller Brothers Coal
Warrior/Custom Mustang, moved into the race lead. A lead he would not
relinquish, leading the remaining 75 circuits to take the prestigious
win. Finishing in second place was "Eldora Million"
winner, Donnie Moran. Billy Moyer, Terry Phillips and Steve Francis
rounded out the top five. The World 100 was a UMP sanctioned event
in which all competitors were riding on USA-made Hoosier tires. |
