IL (June 21) -- The UMP Dirt Late Model Series kicked off its 2004
Summer Nationals on Monday with Shannon Babb leading all 40 laps in
the feature to capture the opening race at Godfrey Speedway.
Thirty-nine drivers were on hand for the race. The grueling UMP Summer
Nationals schedule has the drivers competing in 26 races over 27
nights at 26 different tracks across the Midwest. Ultimately, an
overall winner is decided by the driver earning the most points during the
26 events. Billy Moyer was the 2003 Summer Nationals
Champion. Teams participating in the annual event also travel to
eight different States before a Summer Nationals champion is
crowned. Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. is the exclusive tire provider to
the UMP Series. Hoosier's Shanon Rush is the Product Manager for the
tires used in the series. UMP also sanctions weekly and regional
competition across the United States. They also govern the American
Late Model Series (ALMS), Northern All Stars Late Model Series (NALMS),
