LAKEVILLE,
IN -- The annual USAC National Midget Series Turkey Night Grand Prix
race at California's Irwindale Speedway this past Thursday evening
closed out its season with Bobby East claiming the 100-lap win, but
more importantly, he officially claimed the 2004 USAC National Midget
Car Series championship. It was East's first USAC Series championship
after finishing third last year behind triple-crown winner J.J. Yeley.
Yeley returned to his USAC roots Thursday to compete in the event as
did fellow Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Tony Stewart. The two other USAC
National Series also crowned new champions. Jay Drake won his
first-ever USAC National Sprint Car Series champion, while Dave Steele
also captured his first-ever USAC National Silver Crown Series
championship. The USAC Series competes both on dirt and pavement
surfaces. Hoosier tires are used exclusively in the series when the
series competes on pavement.
Irish Saunders, Hoosier's Manager of Contract Sales,
noted that just like last season, all three National champions
competed exclusively on Hoosier tires throughout the entire season.
Saunders, along with Open Wheel Dirt Product Manager Neil Cowman, will
be attending the USAC banquet on December 10th at the
Downtown-Marriott in Indianapolis. Cowman also proudly noted that
every USAC National Sprint Car Series race contested on dirt this
season was won by a Hoosier-shod competitor. On behalf of Hoosier
Racing Tire Corp., Saunders will be presenting each of the three
National champions with leather Hoosier
jackets.
