J.J. YELEY CLAIMS STOOPS SPRINT
CAR TITLE
|
|
J.J.
Yeley also captured his first-ever USAC National title after narrowly
defeating Jay Drake in the Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Series. The
series which began back in 1956 will now add J.J.'s name to the list
of champions in the Sprint Car Series, which include among others, Parnelli Jones, Johnny
Rutherford, Ken Schrader, and Tony Stewart. Yeley staked his claim to
the National championship after finishing the season 19 markers in
front of Jay Drake after all the points had been tallied.

DAVE DARLAND JOINS RACING ELITE
|
|
Not
only did Dave Darland place himself among racing's elite by being only
the third driver since USAC began it's competition in 1956, to win all
three National titles during their career, he did so after a major
accident late in the season which resulted in him missing several
events which could have dashed his title hopes. But Darland persevered
and claimed the series championship, joining Pancho Carter and Tony
Stewart, as the only drivers to win all three National championships
during their racing careers.
