 March
25, 2006 (Homestead, Miami): Homestead Miami Speedway the 1.485-Mile Paved
Oval hosted the second round of this seasons USAC Silver Crown Series.
This is the first time the USAC Silver Crowns have raced on Miami’s Super
Speedway. USAC Silver Crown presented by K & N Engineering finds the No.
21, Dellen Automotive Family / Utility Peterbilt car, driven by Brian Tyler
finishing in first place, after starting 7th.
Aaron Pierce driving the No. 26, Sam Pierce Chevrolet / Bidelow Trailer Sales,
finished in second place, mentioned that all drivers were concerned about
saving their tires, but all seemed to go well.
Average speed of the 67 laps was 131.601 mph, 45:21.699. The race
featured six lead changes and multiple passes through the back of the field.
The cars displayed two-and three-wide racing throughout the event.
Talking with Steve Partridge an engineer with Hoosier Racing Tire when asked
how the first ever USAC Silver Crown race went on this Homestead, Miami, Super
Speedway Steve said. “It went very well. We were a little concerned at
first. The race speeds were much higher than when we tested.
Though at the end of the race tires looked very good. We did see some wear,
but the tires ran good the whole race.”
When asked if any of the other tracks the USAC Silver Crowns will be running
at this season concerns him, Steve said: “Oh yeah, they all have their own
individual challenges, all severe tracks. Homestead may be the most
severe track that we go to. We really had to work with the cars closely
to get them tuned so we would not have any tire issues. Hoosier must,
and will, continue to take strides to make the Hoosier Tires even more
versatile, to match even slight differences in car set-ups. There are always
some development issues to work out in a new series like this, but Hoosier is
definitely on the right track.“
