STOCKTON,
CA (March 29) -- J.J. Yeley, last year's runner-up in the USAC
National Midget Car Series, is starting the 2003 USAC season strong.
After leaving the season-opening Copper World Classic in first place
in the National Midget Series standings, Yeley added a win in the
Havoline Cavalcade of Motorsports at Stockton 99 Speedway on Saturday.
Yeley took the lead from Teddy Beach on the fifth lap of the 40-lap
race en route to capturing the win. The USAC National Midget Car
Series competes exclusively on Hoosier tires.
Thirty-three cars were entered in qualifying on the
Stockton 99 Speedway 1/4-mile asphalt oval. Bobby East set fast time
of the night with his lap of 13.234 seconds. East was followed by J.J.
Yeley (13.326) and Bud Kaeding (13.399).
The four heat race winners were Jay Drake, J.J. Yeley,
Teddy Beach and Floyd Alvis.
In the 12-lap Semi, Bobby East took the win with Tracy
Hines and A.J. Fike rounding out the top three.
In the 40-lap feature, Teddy Beach took the early lead
over the 24-car field. Beach's lead lasted until the fifth circuit
when J.J. Yeley took over. Yeley led the remaining 36 laps to capture
the win over Bobby East, Jay Drake, Bud Kaeding and A.J. Fike.
Ironically, the first and second place finishers drive cars owned by
Steve Lewis.
J.J. Yeley (134) now extends his lead in the USAC
National Midget Car Series to 15 points over Bobby East (119). Bud
Kaeding rounds out the top three with 100 points.
The next USAC National Midget Car Series race is the
Fred Gerhardt Open Wheel Classic on April 18th at Medera (CA)
Speedway. The event is named in honor of Fred Gerhardt--father of
Hoosier Tire West owner, Rick Gerhardt. Scheduled to compete at the
event will be past USAC Champions Tony Stewart and Jason Leffler
driving cars owned by Rick Gerhardt.
Hoosier Racing Tire is proud to again supply tires to
the USAC National Midget Car Series and its competitors for the 2003
season.
