ANDERSON,
IN (April 6) -- After rains cancelled what was to be the season opener
for the USAC National Sprint Car Series on Saturday at Ohio's Eldora
Speedway, the series traveled west on Sunday to Indiana's Anderson
Speedway where Aaron Pierce won the Glen Niebel Classic after leading
49 of the 50 race laps. Pierce was followed to the finish line by 2001
series champion J.J. Yeley who drives the #20 for Winston Cup champion
Tony Stewart. The Indiana Ford Focus Series also began their much
anticipated debut at Anderson Speedway with Tony Ave capturing the win
in their 20-lap season opener.
Thirty cars were entered in qualifying with Jay Drake
capturing fast time with his lap of 11.538 seconds around the high
banked 1/4-mile Anderson track. Jason McCord was second followed by
defending series champion Tracy Hines in third.
The four heat race winners were Bud Kaeding, Troy
Lowery, Cory Kruseman and Bobby Smith. (Kruseman also drives for Tony
Stewart in the #21 car.)
In the 50-lap feature, Aaron Pierce led all but one
lap en route to capturing the season opening win. J.J. Yeley finished
runner-up after leading lap #43. Levi Jones took home third place
followed by Bobby East and Tracy Hines rounding out the top five.
The next race on the USAC National Sprint Car Series
schedule is May 3rd, at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH.
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. is the exclusive tire
supplier for the USAC National Sprint Car Series when competing on asphalt
which was the case this weekend at Anderson Speedway for the season
opening race.
INDIANA FORD FOCUS SERIES
The much anticipated debut of the Indiana Ford Focus Series also
took place at Anderson Speedway on Sunday with Tony Ave of
Indianapolis capturing the win in that series' inaugural race. Chad
DeSelle finished second with Trenton Darland taking third.
The next event on the Indiana Ford Focus Series
schedule is April 26th, at Baer Field Speedway in Fort Wayne, IN.
The Ford Focus Series was developed by USAC to be an
affordable entry-level venue for open-wheel competitors. Hoosier
Racing Tire Corp. and the United States Auto Club agreed over the
winter that Hoosier would be the exclusive supplier to the fledgling
series.
