HAUBSTADT,
IN (May 18) -- The USAC Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Series competed
at Tri-State Speedway's 1/4-mile dirt track this past Saturday with
Tracy Hines taking the win and extending his points lead in the
series. The win was Hines' third of the season. The first two wins
were on pavement while this win was on dirt. All three victories were
on Hoosier tires. The USAC Sprint Car Series competes exclusively on
Hoosier tires on pavement, while on dirt, any tire brand can be
used.
A huge 45 car field was on hand for qualifying. Eric
Shively set fast time of the event using Hoosier tires. Shively's time
was 13.334 seconds. Levi Jones was second fastest at 13.529 seconds,
followed by Jerry Coons, Jr. and Bill Rose third and fourth,
respectively.
All four preliminary heat races were won by
Hoosier-shod drivers. Eric Shively, Derek Davidson, Tony Elliott and
Kevin Briscoe each won their respective heat race.
In the 12-lap Semi, Jay Drake captured the win on
Hoosiers.
In the 30-lap feature, Tracy Hines led flag-to-flag en
route to the win, his third of the season in the versatile series.
Hines was using a D11 compound on his right rear. Tony Elliott came in
second while using a D10 on the right rear of his sprinter. Bill Rose
was third using a RD12 on his right rear position.
All told, the top eight drivers used Hoosier tires.
Rounding out positions four through eight were: Levi Jones, Derek
Davidson, Jerry Coons, Jr., Kevin Thomas and Eric Shively.
Tracy Hines remains atop the series standings with 383
points followed by Derek Davidson with 304 points and Jay Drake with
265 points.
The USAC Stoops Freightliner Series continues
competition on May 23 at Anderson Speedway.
