LAKEVILLE,
IN (May 30) -- The USAC Series completed three events this past
week--one in each of its three major divisions. In the USAC
Silvercrown Series, J.J. Yeley won the 100-lap USAC Silvercrown
feature race at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Friday which earned
the talented driver a $50,000 bonus. The $50,000 bonus was for any
driver to win both portions of the Kroger Pavement/Dirt Challenge.
Yeley had earlier won the pavement portion of the event last Thursday
at IRP. In the USAC National Midget Cars Series, Aaron Fike won the
50-lap feature at IRP on Saturday, while J.J. Yeley won the 30-lap
feature at Eldora Speedway in the USAC National Sprint Car Series on
Sunday. The holiday weekend was a profitable one for Yeley who
collected $70,900 for his racing efforts and took over the points lead
in all three divisions. The only driver ever to win the "Triple
Crown" in the USAC Series was Tony Stewart in 1995. Ironically,
Stewart is Yeley's car owner. Both of Yeley's wins also came while
riding on Hoosier tires.
USAC NATIONAL SILVER CROWN SERIES
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (May 23) -- J.J. Yeley could win a $50,000 bonus if
he managed to win the second portion of the Kroger Pavement/Dirt
Challenge contested at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Yeley had
earlier won the pavement portion of the event at IRP after running in
fourth place with four laps to go before motoring on to the exciting
win in the Hoosier Twin 50's. The Arizona driver also competes using
Hoosier tires when the USAC Series runs on dirt.
Yeley put everyone on notice early that he intended on
collecting the $50,000 bonus when he went out on the 1-mile track and
set fast time with a lap of 31.966 seconds. All told, the Hoosier
brand was on seven of the top ten qualifiers.
In the feature, J.J. Yeley would not be denied his
chance at the $50,000 bonus. The defending series champion went on to
win the 100-lap marathon dirt race using a Hoosier F55 on his left
rear and an F85 on his right rear position.
Yeley now leads the USAC Silvercrown Series with 177
points over Tracy Hines who has 153 points.
When the USAC racing was over, J.J. Yeley was clearly
the big winner having pocketed a tidy $70,900 and leading all three
USAC divisions. The only other driver to ever win all three series
championships the same year was Tony Stewart in 1995. Ironically, Tony
Stewart is Yeley's car owner.
Hoosier engineer John Reynolds attended the event and
reported the details for this report.
USAC NATIONAL MIDGET CAR SERIES
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (May 24) -- A huge field of 41 cars were entered in
qualifying at IRP attempting to make the 25-car field of the 58th
"Night Before the 500" Classic. J.J. Yeley set fast time of
the day with a lap of 20.726 seconds around the .686-mile track and
since the race was on pavement, all the competitor's cars were mounted
on Hoosier tires as required by USAC rules.
There were two qualifying races with Teddy Beach and
Jay Drake each capturing a win.
In the 50-lap feature, Aaron Fike led wire-to-wire to
take the win over Tracy Hines, Bobby East, Jason Leffler and Ron
Gregory.
J.J. Yeley currently leads the National Midget Car
Series with 392 points followed closely by Bobby East with 390 points.
USAC NATIONAL SPRINT CAR SERIES
ROSSBURG, OH (May 25) -- J.J. Yeley led all 30 laps in the USAC
National Sprint Car Series race at Eldora Speedway on Sunday while
extending his lead to 70 points in the series over Tracy Hines.
With 46 cars vying for a spot in the night's 23-car
field, four heat races were needed to shrink the field to the required
size. The dirt surface of Eldora Speedway meant drivers could use any
brand of tire during the event, but Hoosier-shod drivers were rewarded
with wins in all four of the preliminary heat races. J.J. Yeley won
the first heat, while Damion Gardner, Cory Kruseman and Jim Stinson
were the four heat race winners.
In the 30-lap feature, J.J. Yeley led all 30-laps en
route to the win. Yeley used a Hoosier D12 compound tire as his right
rear tire selection in capturing the win--his second in seven races in
the series. Yeley was followed by Tracy Hines who opted to run the
feature using a Hoosier D15 compound on his right rear position. Bud
Kaeding and Boston Reid finished third and fourth, respectively, for
Team-Hoosier.
The next race up on the National Sprint Car Series
schedule is this Friday night at Gas City Speedway in Indiana where
Hoosier representatives will be on hand to monitor tire performance
and answer any questions the teams/drivers may have.
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp is proud to partner with the
USAC Series in promoting open wheel racing.
