RAPIDS, IA (May 3) -- Phoenix, Arizona's J.J. Yeley was a double winner in USAC
competition last Friday. Yeley won the Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Series
race and the USAC National Sprint Car Series race at Hawkeye Downs Speedway.
The wins were Yeley's first in each series in 2002.

STOOPS FREIGHTLINER SPRINT CAR SERIES
Bobby East set fast time among the 21 cars entered in qualifying for the
Hawkeye Open-Wheel Classic. East's time was 17.544 seconds around the 1/2-mile
track. Jay Drake, Jason McCord and J.J. Yeley each won their respective heat
races. In the 30-lap feature, J.J. Yeley led all 30 laps en route to the win.
Jason McCord finished in second with Tracy Hines rounding out the top three. Tracy
Hines now leads the point standings with 255 markers followed by Derek Davidson
with 207 and A.J. Fike with 194 points. The next race for the series is May
11, at Terre Haute, IN for the Tony Hulman Classic. USAC NATIONAL MIDGET
CAR SERIES
The 24 car field was paced by J.J. Yeley who posted fast time of 17.619
seconds in his midget car on the Hawkeye Downs asphalt track. Brian
Paulus, Ron Gregory and Dave Darland each won their preliminary heat races. In
the 30-lap feature, Teddy Beach led the first seven laps before J.J. Yeley
moved into the race lead. Yeley led the remainder of the way en route to the
win. Bobby East finished second and Dave Darland third rounding out the top
three. The double-win by Yeley was the first time a driver has swept a
pavement doubleheader in the two series since 1995. Dave Steele still leads
the series standings with 239 points followed by Dave Darland with 235 and J.J.
Yeley in third with 219 points. The next race for the USAC National midget
Car Series is May 10th at Kentucky Speedway. Hoosier Open Wheel Asphalt
Product Manager Irish Saunders, recuperating from a motorcycling accident, had
this to say about J.J.'s sweep, "I'm not surprised 'Jimmy Jack' doubled up
at Hawkeye, he is capable of winning a lot of races on asphalt or on dirt, and
don't be surprised to see him in the winner's circle again this
