PUTNAMVILLE,
IN (June 7) -- USAC's Indiana Ford Focus Series completed a 20-lap
feature race this past Saturday at Lincoln Park Speedway. Jerry Coons,
Jr. passed Brice Kenyon on lap 16 en route to the win in the fledgling
series. The Ford Focus Series was developed by USAC to be an
affordable entry-level venue for open-wheel competitors. The new
Indiana series is the byproduct of the success of the Ford Focus
Midget Car Series on the west coast this past season. Hoosier is the
spec tire for the USAC Ford Focus Midget Car Series.
Seventeen cars were on hand at Lincoln Park Speedway's
5/16-mile high-banked clay to determine a winner. Two 8-lap
preliminary heat races were contested in which Tate Martz and Jerry
Coons, Jr. were the winners.
In the 20-lap feature, Brice Kenyon led the race's
first 15 laps before being passed by Jerry Coons, Jr. Coons led the
final 5 laps to take the win--his first of the season. Finishing in
second place is current points leader Robbie Ray. Brice Kenyon settled
for third place after leading early on. The competitive 20-race series
has enjoyed a different race winner in every event contested to
date.
Robbie Ray currently leads the Indiana Ford Focus
Series standings with 179 points over Trenton Darland with 162 points.
Brice Kenyon is in third place (158) followed by Jim Mills (150) and
Tate Martz (147).
The exciting new series will next race this Saturday
(June 14) at Plymouth Motor Speedway in Plymouth, IN--where Hoosier
tires are manufactured. Track promoter Al Bustamante arranged with
Hoosier Manager of Contract Sales Irish Saunders to offer reduced
ticket prices to any Hoosier employees showing their employee ID card
at the ticket office.
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. is proud to have been
selected by USAC to be the exclusive tire provider for the Indiana
Ford Focus Series in 2003.
