NAZARETH,
PA (August 22-24) -- It was a busy weekend in the USAC Series with all
three USAC National divisions in action at Nazareth Speedway and the
Indiana USAC Ford Focus Series contesting a 20-lap feature at Limaland
MotorSports Park. Dave Steele won both the National Midget Car Series race and
the National Sprint Car Series race on Saturday passing J.J. Yeley in both
events to capture the wins. In the Silver Crown Series, it was NASCAR
Busch Series regular Kasey Kahne winning the 100-lap race on Sunday at
Nazareth. In the Indiana Ford Focus Series, Jordan Noblitt captured his first
win of the season leading all 20-laps in the night's
feature race at Limaland Motorsports Park. The USAC Series requires
its competitors to use Hoosier tires when the series competes on
pavement, while the Indiana Ford Focus Series exclusively uses the
Hoosier brand on both dirt and pavement tracks.
USAC NATIONAL MIDGET CAR
SERIES
NAZARETH, PA (August 23) -- Sixteen cars
were entered in qualifying on Friday, August 22, with J.J. Yeley
setting fast time with a lap of 26.650 seconds around the paved 1-mile
Nazareth Speedway. Yeley was followed by Dave Steele, and Bobby
East.
On Saturday, the 30-lap feature began
with J.J. Yeley jumping into the race lead from the drop of the green
flag. Yeley led until lap 11, when Dave Steele moved into the lead.
Steele led the remainder of the way to post his second win of the
season in the series. Steele was followed to the line by Tracy Hines,
Aaron Fike, Bobby East and J.J. Yeley.
Yeley's (1149) lead over Tracy Hines
(1120) in the USAC Midget Car Series was reduced to 29 points. Bobby
East is in third place with 1070 points.
The USAC National Midget Car Series
will be back in action this Saturday, August 30, at Tri-City Speedway
in Granite City, IL.
USAC NATIONAL SPRINT CAR
SERIES
NAZARETH, PA (August 23) -- On Friday, 15
cars posted times in qualifying with J.J. Yeley setting fast time with
a lap of 25.541 seconds in the Tony Stewart sponsored #20. Yeley was
followed by Tracy Hines and Dave Steele atop the qualifying leader
board.
On Saturday in the 30-lap feature, J.J.
Yeley took the early lead. Yeley led through lap 21, before Dave
Steele passed the history-making driver and went on to win the race
over J.J. Yeley, Tracy Hines, Eric Gordon and Marc Jessup.
J.J. Yeley (1739) added to his already huge lead in
the USAC National Sprint Car Series driver standings over Tracy Hines
(1462) to 277 points. Jay Drake is in third place with 1446 points.
With the USAC Series canceling the Labor Day race at
Wisconsin Dells Motor Speedway, the next race will be September 6, at
Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL.
USAC NATIONAL SILVER CROWN SERIES
NAZARETH, PA (August 24) -- Thirty-four cars were
entered in qualifying on Saturday with 31 cars taking times. J.J.
Yeley set fast time with his lap of 26.845 seconds. Amazingly, Yeley
was the fastest qualifier in all three USAC races at Nazareth
Speedway. Dave Steele was second and Tracy Hines third in qualifying.
In the 100-lap feature on Sunday, J.J.
Yeley and Dave Steele swapped the lead four times before eighth
qualifying Kasey Kahne moved into the lead on the 59th lap. Kahne led
the remainder of the way to take his third career USAC Silver Crown
Series win. Kahne was followed to the stripe by J.J. Yeley, Tracy
Hines, Dave Steel and Aaron Fike.
J.J. Yeley leads the USAC National
Silver Crown Series standings with 440 points over Dave Steele with
424 points. Dave Darland is in third place with 410 points.
Next stop for the USAC National Silver
Crown Series is the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds in DuQuoin, IL. The race
is scheduled for August 31st.
INDIANA FORD FOCUS SERIES
LIMA, OH (August 22) -- On Friday, 14 drivers converged on the
1/4-mile Limaland Motorsports Park dirt oval in the USAC Indiana Ford
Focus Series to contest a 20-lap feature race. Prior to the feature,
Jordan Noblitt and Trenton Darland were the two 8-lap heat race
winners.
In the 20-lap feature, Jordan Noblitt
led every lap en route to his first Ford Focus win of the season.
Noblitt was followed to the line by current series points leader
Robbie Ray. Rex Norris, III was third followed by Brad Paris and
previous race winner Tate Martz.
Robbie Ray remains atop the USAC
Indiana Ford Focus Series standings with 841 points followed by Tate
Martz with 683 points and Trenton Darland with 672 points.
The Indiana Ford Focus Series will take
a few weeks off before returning to action on September 19th at I-69
Speedway in Gas City, IN.
