BOTH USAC WINNERS AT JOLIET

In the Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Series, Jay Drake won his first race of the season capturing the 30-lap dirt feature, while Critter Malone also posted his first win of the season after taking the checkered flag in the 30-lap USAC Midget Car Series feature. The USAC Series competes exclusively on Hoosier tires when competing on asphalt, but has no such guideline in the Sprint Car Series when they to battle on dirt. The Midget Car Series however, competes exclusively on Hoosier tires regardless of the racing surface.

USAC STOOPS FREIGHTLINER SPRINT CAR SERIES
JOLIET, IL (September 6) -- Thirty cars posted times in pre-race qualifying with 20 drivers opting to ride on Hoosier tires. The ten fastest times were registered by Hoosier-shod teams. J.J. Yeley set fast time of the night with a lap of 18.493 seconds around the 1/2-mile Route 66 Raceway. Yeley posted the time on a Hoosier D10/RD12 (left rear/right rear) combination.

Three of the four heat race winners were equipped with Hoosier tires. Tony Elliott, Boston Reid, and Jerry Coons, Jr. were the three heat race winners on the Hoosier brand.

In the 30-lap feature, 14 of the 22 race starters rode on Hoosier tires. Jay Drake led all 30 laps to capture the win--his first of the year in the series. Drake used a D12/D20 set-up en route to the flag-to-flag win. Bud Kaeding finished second on a D12/D15 combination, while J.J. Yeley rounded out the top three. Yeley also used a D12/D15 combination.

All told, Team-Hoosier claimed the top six finishing positions and seven of the top eight in the 30-lap feature. Rounding out the top finishing Hoosier-shod drivers were Tracy Hines (4th), Boston Reid (5th), Derek Davidson (6th), and Tony Elliott (8th).

The series is down to its final two events before a champion is crowned. Tracy Hines holds a slim 27 point lead over J.J. Yeley in the standings. The next race is September 21st at Eldora with the final race on October 5th at Terre Haute. Both races will be on dirt with no exclusive tire rule in place.

USAC MIDGET CAR SERIES
JOLIET, IL (September 6) -- There were also 30 cars entered in the USAC Midget Car Series race contested at Route 66 Raceway. The series competes exclusively on Hoosier tires.

Ted Hines set fast time on the 1/2-mile track with a lap of 18.992 seconds. Hines was followed by Tracy Hines with a lap of 19.057 seconds.

Mike Hess, Teddy Beach, and J.J. Yeley each won their respective heat races.

In the 30-lap feature, Critter Malone passed Ryan Scott on the third circuit en route to the win. Malone led the race's final 28 laps to take the win--his first of the season in the series. Malone used a D12/SP2 combination in taking the win.

Dave Darland, Ryan Scott, J.J. Yeley, and Teddy Beach finished second through fifth, respectively.

Dave Darland leads in the point standings with 983 points followed by J.J. Yeley with 867 points. 

The USAC Midget Car Series next race is September 20-21, at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH.
