IN -- The USAC Series was busy over the weekend with all three
National Series' in action. In the USAC National Midget Car Series
which employs a Hoosier tire-rule in all events, Tracy Hines won the
30-lap feature at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois on Friday. In
the USAC National Sprint Car Series, record-breaking driver J.J. Yeley
won the 30-lap feature at Joliet on Friday using a Hoosier D12/D15
combination as the Hoosier brand swept the top four spots. Finally, in
the USAC National Silver Crown Series, the Hoosier brand captured
eight of the top nine finishers in the night's feature race with
Donnie Beechler, using a Hoosier F75 right rear compound, the top
finishing Hoosier-shod driver. Beechler finished runner-up in the
night's 100-lap feature.
USAC NATIONAL MIDGET CAR SERIES
JOLIET, IL (September 5) -- Thirty-one cars were entered in qualifying
with Cole Carter posting fast time with a lap of 18.293 seconds on the
1/2-mile clay oval. Tracy Hines was second followed by Jay Drake,
Bobby East and Scott Hatton.
Dave Darland, Tracy Hines, Mike Hess and Ron Gregory
were the four heat race winners.
In the 30-lap feature, there were three race leaders
with Cory Kruseman leading the first nine circuits before giving way
to Jay Drake who led through the 14th circuit. On lap 15, Tracy Hines
took over the race lead for good beating Jay Drake and J.J. Yeley to
the line. Cory Kruseman and Bobby East finished fourth and fifth,
respectively.
With the win, Tracy Hines (1191) cut into J.J. Yeley's
(1207) lead in the standings which now stands at just 16 points as
Yeley continues his bid to become only the second single-season
triple-crown winner in the USAC Series. Tony Stewart, Yeley's car
owner, was the only other driver to accomplish the feat. He won all
three championships in 1995 before moving to NASCAR racing and
ultimately winning the Winston Cup Championship in 2002.

schedule is this Saturday, September 13, at Creek County Speedway in
Sapulpa, OK.
USAC NATIONAL SPRINT CAR SERIES
JOLIET, IL (September 5) -- With the USAC National Sprint Car
Series competing on dirt at the 1/2-mile Route 66 Raceway, the
competitors were allowed to run any brand of tire. However, the
Hoosier brand was still the "tire-of-choice" by 31 of the 39
competitors. Tracy Hines set fast time with a lap of 17.693 seconds
followed by three more Hoosier-shod rides--those being Tony Elliott,
Derek Scheffel and Boston Reid.
Team-Hoosier remained undefeated in heat race action
when Dickie Gaines, J.J. Yeley, Tom Hessert and Mat Neely each won
their respective heats.
In the feature, J.J. Yeley led all 30 laps en route to
the win using a Hoosier D12/D15 (LR/RR) combination. Yeley was
followed by Boston Reid, Levi Jones and Jay Drake to round out the top
four finishers. All told, members of Team-Hoosier collected seven of
the top eight finishing positions. Dickie Gaines, Mat Neely and Jerry
Coons, Jr. finished sixth through eighth, respectively.
J.J. Yeley holds a commanding 307 point lead in the
series driver standings over Jay Drake (1499). Tracy Hines (1498), Bud
Kaeding (1226), and Boston Reid (1082) round out the top five.
The next event on the USAC National Sprint Car Series
schedule is a special event on September 19-20, at Eldora Speedway.
"The Mopar Million Sprint at Eldora" features a $200,000
payout to the winner, while paying $10,000 just to start the feature.
It will be the largest purse in Sprint Car racing history.
USAC NATIONAL SILVER CROWN SERIES
DUQUOIN, IL (September 6) -- Forty two cars were entered in qualifying
for the "Ted Horn 100" on the 1-mile DuQuoin State
Fairgrounds Saturday. Teddy Beach set fast time among the competitors
with his lap of 29.947 seconds followed by J.J. Yeley at
30.297 seconds.
The 100-lap feature was led by Hoosier-shod J.J. Yeley
through lap 75, before Rich Tobias, Jr. moved into the lead. Tobias
led the remainder of the way to take the win. Tobias was followed by
the Hoosier-shod cars of Donnie Beechler, J.J. Yeley, Kevin Huntley,
Tracy Hines, Jerry Coons, Jr., Dave Darland, Ron Gregory and Russ
Gamester as the Hoosier brand was used by eight of the top nine finishing
drivers.
J.J. Yeley leads the USAC National Silver Crown Series
standings with 497 points over Dave Darland who has 452 points. Tracy
Hines and Dave Steele are tied for third with 432 points. Jay Drake
rounds out the top five with 307 points.
The next race on the USAC National Silver Crown Series
schedule is September 14th, at the Tulsa Fairgrounds Motorplex.
