LAKEVILLE,
IN (May 17, 2005) -- USA Modified Series Director Keith Beeching announced this
week the USA Modified Series will, once again, be running on Hoosier tires for
the remainder of the 2005 season. The series will use the popular Hoosier 970
tires which repeat extremely well, while providing for exciting and affordable
racing. Left side tires will be Hoosier 8.0/26.5-15 970 with right side tires
being 8.0/27.0-15 970 tires.
Interestingly, USA Modified Series President Steve Ellis was originally
involved in the first-ever testing of the 970 tire when the series was called
I-Car.
USA Modified Series Director Keith Beeching commented, "We are
excited about being on Hoosier tires again. I know our racers are ready for a
good, reliable tire and I think Hoosier fits that mold perfectly."
The sequence of events leading to the decision to switch back to the Hoosier
brand was a coincidence of sorts. Several members of Hoosier Tire were at Baer
Field for the first ASA Late Model Series race of the season using Hoosier's
new short track radial tire. The USA Modified Series was also there for their
second race of the season (although using another tire brand). But tire supply
problems and product consistency issues were quickly surfacing. That's when
Hoosier's Terry Newton and Steve Ellis crossed paths and the rest, as they say,
is history.
Keith Beeching relayed, "The open wheeled modifieds were on another
manufacturer's tire and things just didn't work out. I think it better we make
the change now than wait for something else to happen. Beeching added,
"Terry Newton was at Baer Field for the ASALMS race which Hoosier has a
new short track radial for. He saw we were in trouble and just offered to help.
That's how it all got started."
Hoosier Manager of Contract Sales Irish Saunders was also at Baer Field when
initial discussions began. Saunders commented, "I was very happy to
hear of Steve's decision to switch back to the Hoosier brand. This tire was
specifically developed for these cars years ago. The 970 tire will allow for
great racing that the competitors can afford."
Series President Steve Ellis stated, "It's great to be 'back home
again in Indiana' with Hoosier. The 970 will provide great racing and Hoosier
is a great company to work with."
The Fortville (IN) based USA Modified Series boasts a 16-race schedule and
competes at tracks in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. The USA Modifieds
are the largest entry level, pavement-only series in the country. The series'
next race is the "Night before the 500" on May 28, at Indianapolis
Raceway Park.
