BARBERVILLE,
FL (February 4) -- Greg Hodnett captured his first win of the season
Thursday night winning the 410 Sprint feature at Florida's Volusia
Speedway Park. Hodnett was one of many drivers opting to bolt on the
Hoosier brand during the event and was rewarded with a first place
finish ahead of fellow Hoosier-shod drivers Shane Stewart, Fred
Rahmer, Danny Lasoski and Danny Smith. The race was much like the past
four seasons on dirt tracks across the globe with Hoosier tires being
the choice of 22 of the 24 feature starters. In the end, the first 13
drivers to cross the finish line in the night's feature race rode on
Hoosiers. Volusia Speedway, located 15 miles from Daytona International
Speedway, also hosted a U.M.P. Modified race which was won by Ron
Barker. Barker was followed by Brent Glastetter, Scott Orr, Klint
Pursley and Kevin Sexton. The U.M.P. Modified Series uses a
Hoosier-only tire-rule in both its Super Late Model and its Open Wheel
Modified classes to help keep costs down for its competitors.
In the 410 Sprint feature race, Greg Hodnett took the
win using a pair of Hoosier RD12's on his left and right rear
positions. Runner-up Shane Stewart opted to run a Hoosier RD12/D12
(left rear/right rear) combination, while third place finisher Fred
Rahmer used the same set-up as the race winner. Danny Lasoski, who
finished fourth, used a pair of Hoosier D10's--Hoosiers softest
compound available.
Rounding out the top-13 finishers on Hoosiers were
Danny Smith in fifth, Craig Dollansky, Terry McCarl, Lance Dewease,
Zack Chappell, Jeremy Campbell, Mark Smith, Joey Saldana and Kevin
Frey in 6th through 13th, respectively.
Hoosier's Oval Track Dirt Product Manager Neil Cowman
attended the race which was the first of four nights of 410 Sprint
racing at the famous 1/2-mile track.
