IN (August 12, 2007) -- Dave Weltmeyer came out of (semi) retirement to win the
CRA sanctioned 6th annual Elmer Musgrave Memorial 100 at Illiana Speedway
The wily veteran started 12th while conserving his Hoosier tires before finally
making his move with nine laps to go in the 100-lap race. The former multi-time
track champion crossed the finish line ahead of Larry Schuler who passed Eddie
Hoffman for second on the final lap. Hoffman had won the memorial race twice
After the race Weltmeyer commented,
"The leaders were running too fast of a pace--more than I wanted to run. I
think they burned the tires off their cars."
race winner continued, "The only chance I had was to 'coast'. I needed a
yellow (flag), but I got lapped traffic. It slowed them down and put me where I
needed to be. I had a better car than both of them. They gave me room (to pass).

added, "We had a good strategy. You always have a plan and today ours
worked. I just waited on the race to come to me. I could have moved up sooner,
but if I did I would not have had anything left to pass them."
