SCHERERVILLE, IN (August 12, 2007) -- Dave Weltmeyer came out of (semi) retirement to win the CRA sanctioned 6th annual Elmer Musgrave Memorial 100 at Illiana Speedway on Saturday. The wily veteran started 12th while conserving his Hoosier tires before finally making his move with nine laps to go in the 100-lap race. The former multi-time track champion crossed the finish line ahead of Larry Schuler who passed Eddie Hoffman for second on the final lap. Hoffman had won the memorial race twice before.

After the race Weltmeyer commented, "The leaders were running too fast of a pace--more than I wanted to run. I think they burned the tires off their cars."

The race winner continued, "The only chance I had was to 'coast'. I needed a yellow (flag), but I got lapped traffic. It slowed them down and put me where I needed to be. I had a better car than both of them. They gave me room (to pass). When it's your night, it's your night."

Weltmeyer added, "We had a good strategy. You always have a plan and today ours worked. I just waited on the race to come to me. I could have moved up sooner, but if I did I would not have had anything left to pass them."

The veteran concluded, "I don't think I got that much faster. They just got slower."

All of the competitors were competing on Hoosier bias-ply tires (3035 lefts and 3045 rights).
