LAKEVILLE,
IN -- The World of Outlaws Late Model Series was in action this past
Friday and Saturday for a pair of one-night shows. On Friday at
Nebraska's Eagle Raceway, Steve Francis passed Scott Bloomquist late
in the 60-lap race en route to collecting his second win of the
season. On Saturday, Scott Bloomquist took the lead from the drop of
the green flag and never relinquished it during the 50-lap race
at Iowa's Farley Speedway. Both Francis and Bloomquist rode on Hoosier
tires en route to their respective $10,000 wins. Both races were also
won using the same right rear compound selection--Hoosier's new *D55*
tire. Saturday's race was attended by Hoosier Late Model Dirt Product
Manager Shanon Rush who reported the details used in this report.
EAGLE, NE (May 14) -- Thirty-three cars were on
hand Friday evening at Eagle Raceway for a 60-lap feature race with
the world's top late model dirt drivers known as the "Dirty
Dozen" battling it out with the local talent on the famous
1/3-mile dirt oval.
The fans on hand were witness to 19 drivers smashing
the old track record of 14.195 seconds. Scott Bloomquist was the
fastest qualifier breaking the old mark by almost a half a second.
Bloomquist, on Hoosier tires, flew around Eagle Raceway in a scant
13.597 seconds.
All four heat races and the Dash race were won by
drivers using Hoosier tires. Scott Bloomquist, Billy Moyer, Rick Eckert
and Brian Birkhofer were the four heat race winners with Birkhofer
also claiming the Dash race. John Blankenship also won the B-feature
on Hoosiers.
In the 60-lap feature, Brian Birkhofer took the lead
from the pole at the drop of the green flag. On lap six, Scott
Bloomquist passed Birkhofer for the lead on the low side. Bloomquist
led until lap 47, when he was passed on the inside by Steve Francis.
From there, Francis, who won the season-opening event in February at
Volusia (FL) during Speedweeks, led the remainder of the distance to notch
his second win of the season. Francis took the $10,000-to-win prize
using Hoosier's new *D55* tire.
Following Francis to the line was Scott Bloomquist,
Dan Schlieper, Rick Eckert and Chub Frank in second through fifth,
respectively.
FARLEY, IA (May 15) -- Thirty-seven cars posted
times in qualifying on Saturday at Farley Speedway looking to claim
the $10,000 top prize in the night's 50-lap feature. Rick Eckert
earned fast qualifier honors with his 18.482 second lap around the
1/2-mile dirt oval. Scott Bloomquist was second in qualifying followed
by Mike Balzano, Rick Auckland and Brian Birkhofer.
Three of the four heat winners rode on Hoosier tires
with Brian Birkhofer, Scott Bloomquist and Billy Moyer each capturing
wins in their respective heat races.
In the 50-lap feature, all 24 starters rode on
USA-made Hoosier tires. When the race was over, Scott Bloomquist had
led flag-to-flag en route to collecting the $10,000 payout. Bloomquist
won the race using Hoosier's new *D55* late model dirt tire.
Bloomquist was followed to the line by Darren Miller who started 17th, Chub Frank,
Brian Birkhofer and previous race winner Steve Francis.
With the win, Hoosier-shod drivers have posted an
impressive 14-1 record in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series which
does not use a tire-rule. Currently, just 52 points separate the top
four drivers in the standings. Scott Bloomquist, who has won nearly
$70,000 this season, leads the driver standings with 1794 points
followed by Dale McDowell (1759), Steve Francis (1749), Rick Eckert
(1742) and Bart Hartman (1697).
