LAKEVILLE,
IN (March 18, 2009) -- Life is pretty good right now for Steve Francis. The
2007 World of Outlaws Late model Series champion is once again perched atop the
series standings.
The 41-year-old driver started the season with a fourth place finish
and followed that up with two consecutive wins to give him a 16-pont lead in
the driver standings over Josh Richards.
One reason why the Ashland, KY driver is having so much success this year
could be attributed to car owner Dale Beitler and Francis' decision to return
to the Hoosier brand.
Francis' second win of the season came Friday night at Deep South Speedway
in Loxley, AL. Francis started on the pole alongside Billy Moyer who led the
race's first 18 circuits before Francis regained the top spot midway through
the race. Despite two caution flags, Francis led the rest of the way to capture
the 40-lap win and collect $7,700 for his night's work.
Francis, also known as the Kentucky Colonel, stated after the race,
"For some reason, I'm relaxed right now and just enjoying going racing.
I'm having more fun than I ever have in my life." One can understand
why.
The win was Francis' 22nd which is tops among all drivers since the series
began running under the World Racing Group back in 2004.
Hoosier's Late Model Dirt Product Manager Shanon Rush commented after the
win, "We are ecstatic to have Steve and the entire Dale Beitler team back
on Hoosiers this season."
Rush added, "It took a lot of hard work from everyone, including our
distributors, to bring them back home.
Rush concluded, "This is definitely a great way to restart our
relationship--back in victory lane."
The next stop on the series' 48-race tour is this Friday at Battleground
Speedway in Highlands, TX.
