WORTH, TX (October 10-11) -- The O'Reilly World of Outlaws Series
added another driver's name to the list of winner's this season when
Jason Johnson came from way back in 13th place to take the win in
Saturday's 40-lap feature at Texas Motor Speedway. For Johnson, who
pocketed $12,000 for his effort, it was his first-ever A-main feature
win in the series. On Friday, Daryn Pittman won the 30-lap preliminary
feature after starting seventh in the field. Both night's feature
races ended with a 1-2-3 finish for the Hoosier brand bringing the
season total to 77 podium sweeps in 87 races for Team-Hoosier. Just
six nights of racing remain on the 2003 Outlaws' schedule with seven
Hoosier-shod drivers atop the standings led by Steve
Kinser.
PRELIMINARY
FORT WORTH, TX (October 10) -- Thirty-seven cars were entered in
qualifying with 33 mounted on Hoosier tires and the remaining four
drivers split among the two other competing tire brands. The nine
fastest times in qualifying were set by Hoosier-shod drivers led by
Daryn Pittman. Pittman circled the 4/10-mile oval in 13.413 seconds
followed by Jason Sides, Steve Kinser, Danny Lasoski, Donny Schatz,
Brooke Tatnell, Paul McMahan, Tim Shaffer and Sammy Swindell.
All four heat races were won by drivers using the
Hoosier brand with Tim Shaffer, Jason Meyers, Joey Saldana and Brian
Brown each capturing wins.
Both Dash races were also victories for Team-Hoosier
with Tim Shaffer winning the first Dash and Sammy Swindell capturing
the final Dash.
In the 30-lap feature, Daryn Pittman charged from seventh
place to take to the lead from Steve Kinser on lap 22, using a Hoosier
D12/D15 (LR/RR) combination. From there, he defended the top spot
until the checked flag dropped collecting $5,000 for the first place
finish. Steve Kinser finished in second place winning $3,000, while
Australian Brooke Tatnell rounded out the top three earning $2,500.
Both Kinser and Tatnell used the same left rear/right rear compound
combination as the race winner giving Team-Hoosier its 76th podium
sweep of the season.
Shane Stewart finished in fourth place, while Sammy
Swindell, Kraig Kinser, Jac Haudenschild, Tim Shaffer, Joey Saldana
and Aaron Berryhill rounded out the top ten. All told, Hoosier-shod
driver captured the top 17 positions in the night's feature race.
FINALE
FORT WORTH, TX (October 11) -- The top four finishers in Friday's
preliminary were awarded the top four spots in the Dash race, while
sitting out qualifying which had 32 cars posting times. Paul McMahan
set fast time of the night with a 13.963 second lap. He was followed
by Donny Schatz, Joey Saldana, Sammy Swindell, Aaron Berryhill, Kraig
Kinser, Mark Kinser, Danny Lasoski, Jason Sides and Jason Johnson in
second through tenth, respectively. All ten drivers competed on
USA-made Hoosier tires.
Three of the four 8-lap heat race winners rode on Hoosier
tires. Danny Lasoski won the first heat, while Donny Schatz won the
second and Sammy Swindell the final heat for Team-Hoosier.
In the 5-lap Dash race, all eight starters rode on
Hoosier tires. Steve Kinser was the winner followed by Shane Stewart,
Daryn Pittman, Brooke Tatnell, Sammy Swindell, Paul McMahan, Joey
Saldana and Donny Schatz. The finish determined the first four rows in
the night's 40-lap feature.
In the feature, Steve Kinser took the lead from the
outset using a pair of D15's. On lap 35, Jason Johnson took over the
race lead after starting clear back in 13th place. Johnson, also using
a pair of D15's, led the final six laps to claim his first career
feature win in the series. Johnson collected $12,000 for the win
becoming the series' fifth first-time winner and 17th different winner
of the season.
For the second consecutive night, Steve Kinser settled
for a runner-up finish, while earning $6,000. Joey Saldana finished in
third place earning $4,000. It was the 77th podium sweep of the season
for Team-Hoosier in the World of Outlaws Series.
The first 14 finishing positions in the feature were
collected by drivers riding on the Hoosier brand. Daryn Pittman was
fourth followed by Shane Stewart, Tim Shaffer, Donny Schatz, Paul
McMahan, Jac Haudenschild and Jason Meyers rounding out the top ten.
Danny Lasoski, Mark Kinser, Brooke Tatnell and Wayne Johnson rounded
out 11th through 14th place.
Steve Kinser increased his lead in the driver
standings to 134 points over Danny Lasoski with six nights of racing
remaining. Joey Saldana is in third place, while Daryn Pittman is 16
points behind Saldana. Donny Schatz, Jason Sides and Paul McMahan
round out the top seven in the rankings. All seven drivers compete on
Hoosier tires and thus are members of Team-Hoosier.
The Outlaws Series is back in action this Friday,
October 17, for a two-night show at Mississippi's Delta Bowl Speedway
where the Hoosier brand hopes to continue on its path to capture its
fourth consecutive series championship.
