TUNICA,
MS (October 17-18) -- Tennessee's Greg Hodnett, who competes regularly
in Central Pennsylvania as a member of the PA Posse, won both Friday
night's 25-lap O'Reilly World of Outlaws Series preliminary and
Saturday's 30-lap finale at Delta Bowl Speedway. Hodnett collected
$17,000 for the pair of victories leading all 55 feature laps in the
two wins. Hodnett was followed to the finish line Friday by Danny
Lasoski and Steve Kinser and on Saturday by Steve Kinser and Donny
Schatz giving Team-Hoosier its 78th and 79th podium sweep of the
season in 89 races. The series has just four nights of racing left in
the season heading into this Friday's race at Lone Star Speedway in
Kilgore, TX. Currently, 17-time series champion Steve Kinser leads the
driver standings by 139 points over Danny Lasoski as nine out of the
top ten drivers in the rankings ride on USA-made Hoosier tires.
PRELIMINARY
TUNICA, MS (October 17) -- Forty-two cars were entered in
qualifying with 38 drivers riding on Hoosier tires. The remaining four
drivers were split unevenly among the other two competing tire brands.
The top 14 times in qualifying were posted by Hoosier-shod drivers led
by Danny Lasoski who set a new single-lap track record of 11.662
seconds around the 1/3-mile oval. Paul McMahan was second followed by
Steve Kinser, Jeff Shepard, Mark Kinser, Jason Sides, Kraig Kinser,
Daryn Pittman, Greg Hodnett and Sammy Swindell in third through tenth.
There were four 8-lap heat races contested with each
race being won by a member of Team-Hoosier. Aaron Berryhill won the
first heat, while Paul McMahan, Brian Brown and Jason Johnson won
heats two through four, respectively.
Both Dash events were also won by Hoosier-shod drivers
when Greg Hodnett won the first Dash and Sammy Swindell won the final
Dash.
In the 25-lap feature, all 24 entrants rode on Hoosier
tires. When the race was over, Greg Hodnett won from the pole leading
all 25 laps. Hodnett used a D12/RD15 (LR/RR) combination en route to
collecting the $5,000 opening night win. Danny Lasoski, who started
fifth, finished in second place using a Hoosier RD12/D12 set up. Steve
Kinser rounded out the top three opting to run the same rear compound
combination as the race winner. Kinser started back in seventh place
to take the final podium spot.
Rounding out the top ten was Mark Kinser in fourth and
Sammy Swindell in fifth. Jason Meyers, after starting 19th, finished
in sixth place subbing for the injured Craig Dollansky, while Paul
McMahan, Jason Sides, Kelly Kinser and Brian Brown rounded out the top
ten.
FINALE
TUNICA, MS (October 18) -- With the top four finishers in Friday's
race given the top four spots in the Dash race, that left 34 drivers
competing for fast time of the night in qualifying with 30 on Hoosiers and
the remaining four split evenly among the other two competing tire
brands. Sammy Swindell set fast time with a lap of 12.483 seconds.
Swindell was followed by Jason Johnson, Jonathan Allard, Ricky
Stenhouse, Donny Schatz and Jeff Shepard as Team-Hoosier collected the
top six times in qualifying.
Team-Hoosier remained undefeated in heat race
competition when Craig Keel, Jason Meyers and Donny Schatz each won
their respective 8-lap heats.
All eight entrants in the Dash race were Hoosier-shod
cars so a Team-Hoosier winner was never in doubt. When the race was
over, Greg Hodnett had taken the win followed by Danny Lasoski, Steve
Kinser, Sammy Swindell, Jeff Shepard, Jason Johnson and Mark Kinser.
In the 30-lap feature all but one driver rode on
Hoosier tires. For the second consecutive night, no one could upset
the Apple car driven by Greg Hodnett. Hodnett led all 30 laps en route
to sweeping the two-night Delta Bowl event. Hodnett took the $12,000
win using a Hoosier RD12/D15 combination. Steve Kinser collected
$6,000 for second place after starting third. Kinser was followed to
the finish line by Donny Schatz who had started seventh. Both Kinser
and Schatz opted to run the 30-lapper using a D12/D15 combination.
All told, Hoosier-shod drivers finished first through ten
in the night's final race. Rounding out the top ten were Sammy
Swindell in fourth followed by Danny Lasoski, Jeff Shepard, Paul
McMahan, Jason Johnson, Jason Meyers and Mark Kinser.
Steve Kinser currently leads the driver rankings by
139 points over Danny Lasoski with just four nights of racing to go.
Joey Saldana, and Daryn Pittman continue to battle it out for third
place. Saldana is in third place with 9222 points followed by Pittman
with 9213 points. Donny Schatz, Jason Sides and Paul McMahan are
solidly in fifth through seventh place, respectively, while Jason Meyers is
in ninth followed by Tim Shaffer in tenth giving Team-Hoosier nine out
of the top ten spots in the driver standings. Team-Hoosier is
competing for its fourth consecutive championship in the World of
Outlaws Series and appears to be well positioned to do just that.
The Outlaws are back in action this Friday, October
24, at Lone
Star Speedway in Kilgore, TX.
