PORT
ROYAL, PA (October 2) -- The O'Reilly World of Outlaws lived up to
their reputation Thursday night invading the turf of the local racer's
known as the Pennsylvania Posse taking the lion's share of the prize
money in the night's feature race. When the race was over, Jason
Meyers had taken the win followed by Daryn Pittman and Steve Kinser in
second and third. It was the 72nd 1-2-3 finish by Hoosier-shod drivers
this year in the series in 82 races. Despite the presence of another
tire brand at the event, Hoosier was the only brand used by the 25
starters in the 25-lap feature. Meyers is competing in the #7 Caravan
Motorsports car subbing for the injured Craig Dollansky. Dollansky is
scheduled to return to the #7 for the last four races of the season following
a lower back injury the popular driver suffered back in May at
Indianapolis.
Forty cars posted times in qualifying on the Port
Royal Speedway 1/2-mile clay oval with 37 drivers opting to run
USA-made Hoosier tires. The choice was a good one with the 15 fastest
times in qualifying coming from cars equipped on Hoosier tires. Paul
McMahan earned fast time honors with his 15.843 second lap. McMahan
was followed by Greg Hodnett, Steve Kinser, Sammy Swindell, Danny
Lasoski, Tyler Walker, Kraig Kinser, Jac Haudenschild, Jason Meyers
and Erin Crocker.
There were four heat races contested with all four
being won by members of Team-Hoosier. PA Posse member Lance Dewease
won the first heat using a Hoosier RD12 compound on his right rear
tire position, while Jonathan Allard, Johnny Herrera and Jason Sides
won their respective heat races using Hoosier's softest compound (D10)
on their right rear positions.
Jac Haudenschild and Jason Meyers kept Team-Hoosier's
record spotless on the night when they captured wins in the two Dash
events. Both wins came on the lightening fast D10 compound.
Even the "last-chance" B feature race was
won by a Hoosier-shod driver--Tyler Walker.
In the 25-lap feature, all 25 entrants rode on Hoosier
tires. Jason Meyers took the lead from the green flag and held off all
challengers to take the win using a pair of D12's (LR/RR). Daryn
Pittman was second using a pair of RD12's. Current series point leader
Steve Kinser rounded out the top three using the same compound
combination as the race winner.
Tim Shaffer finished fourth followed by Danny Lasoski,
Kraig Kinser, Jason Sides, Erin Crocker, Mike Erdley and Johnny
Herrera in fifth through tenth, respectively. The only top-ten PA
Posse member was ninth place finisher Mike Erdley.
So, score round one to the Outlaws with two nights at
Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, PA up next with the Posse
looking for revenge.
Steve Kinser increased his lead in the series
standings to 78 points over Danny Lasoski with 11 nights of racing
remaining on the Outlaws schedule.
Special thanks to Hoosier Engineer Jon Huffman who is
attending the Port Royal and Williams Grove events. Jon provided the
details for this report.
