LAKEVILLE,
IN -- Steve Kinser posted a pair of feature wins over the weekend as
the "King of the Outlaws" draws ever closer to capturing an
unprecedented 17th Pennzoil World of Outlaws championship. On Friday
in Tennessee, Kinser took the lead on lap 18 and led the remainder
of the 30-lap race to take the win. On Saturday in Talladega, Kinser
took the lead from fellow Hoosier-shod driver Donny Schatz on lap 33
of the 40-lap feature en route to winning his second feature in as
many nights. Both nights also ended in a 1-2-3-4 finish for teams
riding on USA-made Hoosier tires.
TENNESSEE MOTOR SPEEDWAY
BAXTER, TN (October 4) -- A 21-car field posted qualifying times with
17 drivers opting to ride on the Hoosier brand. When qualifying was
complete, the seven fastest times had been recorded by Hoosier-shod
drivers. Danny Lasoski set fast time around the 3/8-mile oval.
Lasoski's lap was timed at 12.955 seconds. He was followed by Tyler
Walker, Tim Shaffer, Joey Saldana, Randy Hannagan, Steve Kinser and
Jeff Swindell.
Two of three heat races were won by drivers using
Hoosier tires. Brad Furr and Danny Wood were the two heat winners on
the Hoosier brand.
Both dash races were also won by Hoosier-shod drivers.
Randy Hannagan won the first dash and would start on the pole for the
night's 30-lap feature. Steve Kinser captured the second dash joining
Hannagan in the front row for the feature.
In the feature, Randy Hannagan immediately took the
race lead at the drop of the green flag. Hannagan opted to run the
30-lap feature using a Hoosier D10/RD12 combination. But on lap 18,
Steve Kinser, using a pair of D12's, charged into the lead. The
16-time series champion held on the remainder of the race to take the
$10,000 win.
Tyler Walker, using a pair of RD12's, took second
place and the $5,500 runner-up prize. Pole-sitter Randy Hannagan
settled for third and pocketed $3,200. Donny Schatz finished in fourth
place after starting 11th and gave Team-Hoosier a top-four sweep.
Schatz used a D10/RD12 set-up.
Hoosier tires were on nine of the first ten drivers to
cross the finish line. Other Hoosier-shod drivers in the top ten were
Joey Saldana (6th), Mark Kinser (7th), Craig Dollansky (8th), Danny
Wood (9th), and Daryn Pittman (10th).
TALLADEGA SHORT TRACK
TALLADEGA, AL (October 5) -- After racing in Tennessee on Friday
night, the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series had a short night
traveling to Alabama's Talladega Short Track on Saturday. Twenty-five
cars were on hand--20 of them riding on the Hoosier brand with the
remaining five drivers opting to use one of the two other competing
tire brands. Hoosier-shod Tim Shaffer set fast time around the
1/3-mile oval with a time of 11.770 seconds.
All three heat races were won by drivers using Hoosier
tires. Steve Kinser, Tyler Walker and Joey Saldana were the three
Hoosier-shod heat winners.
Both dash races were also won by drivers on Hoosiers.
Craig Dollansky won the first dash, while Steve Kinser won the second
dash.
In the 40-lap feature, Steve Kinser jumped out to an
early race lead from his outside pole position. Kinser led until lap
10, when Donny Schatz moved into the lead after starting third. But
Schatz couldn't hold off the 16-time series champion. On lap 33,
Kinser moved back into the race lead for good. The win was Kinser's
second in two nights. Kinser used a pair of Hoosier D15's in taking
the $10,000 win.
Finishing in second place was Craig Dollansky riding
on a Hoosier D12/RD15 combination. Dollansky collected $5,500 for the
runner-up finish. Donny Schatz took third and pocketed $3,200. Schatz
ran the 40-lap race using a D12/D15 combination. Daryn Pittman
(D12/RD15) finished in fourth and completed the 1-2-3-4 sweep for
Team-Hoosier.
Other drivers finishing in the top ten on the Hoosier
brand were Danny Lasoski (6th), Tim Shaffer (8th), Joey Saldana (9th),
and Mark Kinser (10th).
Steve Kinser continues to lead the Pennzoil World of
Outlaws points battle over defending series champion Danny Lasoski.
Kinser has 9565 points to Lasoski's 9262 points. Craig Dollansky, Joey
Saldana, Tim Shaffer, Mark Kinser, Donny Schatz and Brad Furr round
out the top eight in the standings--all eight drivers use Hoosier
tires. Randy Hannagan is in tenth place giving Team-Hoosier nine of
the top ten positions in the standings.
The Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series resumes
competition this Friday, October 11-12, at North Carolina's Lowe's
Motor Speedway.
