LAS
VEGAS, NV (November 5-6) -- The 2004 World of Outlaws Sprint Car
Series season came to a close Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
with two more victories being notched by Hoosier-shod drivers. On
Friday, Danny Lasoski led all 25 laps en route to the win, while Donny
Schatz passed Daryn Pittman on the eighth circuit of the season-ending
30-lap finale to capture the $12,000 winner's payout on Saturday.
Steve Kinser is this year's champion winning his 19th World of Outlaws
Series. In the process, Kinser also gave the Hoosier brand its record
fifth straight title. Amazingly, the Hoosier brand finished first in
88 of the 89 races contested this year, while collecting 87 second
place finishes and all 89 third place finishes. Hoosier Open Wheel
Dirt Product Manager Neil Cowman attended the final two events and the
series banquet held on Sunday.
PRELIMINARY
LAS VEGAS, NV (November 5) -- Forty-four cars were entered in
qualifying for Friday's preliminary race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
with 43 of them trusting the Hoosier brand. Terry McCarl was fast
qualifier using a pair of Hoosier D10's. The 6-time and defending
Knoxville Raceway track champion posted a time of 14.062 seconds
around the 1/2-mile track. McCarl was followed by Danny Lasoski, Kraig
Kinser and Craig Dollansky atop the qualifying leader board.
All four heat races were won by members of Team
Hoosier. Jason Meyers won the first heat, while Brooke Tatnell, Jeremy
Campbell and Daryn Pittman won the final three heat races. All 16
competitors in the two Dash races rode on Hoosiers with Craig
Dollansky collecting the win in the first Dash and Danny Lasoski
winning the final Dash.
In the 25-lap feature, all but one of the 24 starters
rode on Hoosier tires. When the race was over, Danny Lasoski had
claimed the win leading every lap while using a 94" RD12/D12
(LR/RR) combination. It was the 85th consecutive win in the series for
the Hoosier brand. Lasoski, who collected $5,000 for the win, was
followed to the line by Shane Stewart who rode on the same rear
drive compound/stagger as the race winner. Donny Schatz finished in
third place (96" D12/D12) after starting in eighth.
Daryn Pittman finished fourth followed by Jason
Meyers, Jac Haudenschild, Jeremy Campbell, Joey Saldana and Dennis
Moore, Jr.
FINALE
LAS VEGAS, NV (November 6) -- Thirty-nine cars were on hand Saturday
for the season-ending race at Las Vegas with all but one driver again
on the Hoosier brand. Terry McCarl was fast qualifier for the second
night in a row circling the track in 14.470 seconds. The Altoona, IA
driver was followed by Craig Dollansky, and Erin Crocker as Team
Hoosier claimed the top 15 times in qualifying.
Heat race winners included Brooke Tatnell, Randy
Hannagan, Kevin Huntley and Steve Kinser. All eight entrants in the
night's Dash race rode on Hoosiers. The race was won by Donny Schatz
who was awarded the pole position for the night's feature race.
In the 30-lap feature, 25 of the 26 race starters rode
on Hoosier tires. Donny Schatz and Shane Stewart started the race on
the front row as the green flag waved. Stewart took the lead at the
start using a 94" RD12/D12 combination. Stewart led through lap
six, when fourth starting Daryn Pittman took a turn out front. Pittman
led lap seven, before the pole-sitter Donny Schatz made a pass for the
lead. Schatz, using a 96" RD12/D12, led the final 23 laps to
claim the win and collect the $12,000 winner's check.
Schatz was followed to the finish line by Daryn
Pittman (94" RD12/RD12), Steve Kinser (94" RD12/D12), Shane Stewart
and Craig Dollansky. Tim Shaffer finished in sixth place followed by
Brooke Tatnell, Jason Sides, Joey Saldana and Jason Meyers. All told,
Hoosier-shod drivers captured the top 14 spots in the final race of
the season in the series.
The win brings Team Hoosier's record to an amazing
88-1 in World of Outlaws events this year eclipsing last year's,
then-best, 88-4 record.
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. extends its congratulations
to Steve Kinser on posting his record 19th championship while giving
the Hoosier brand claim to its unprecedented fifth consecutive
championship in the World of Outlaws Series. The entire Hoosier
organization also would like to extend its deepest appreciation and
gratitude to all the teams, drivers and fans of the series for making
the 2004 season such a memorable one in the history of Hoosier Racing
