SYDNEY,
AUSTRALIA (January 8) -- The World of Outlaws traveled to Australia to
start the 2004 season with a 3-day event at Parramatta City Raceway.
When it was all over there were actually two winners--Australia's
Kerry Madsen and Hoosier tires. Madsen won Thursday night's feature
besting the 59-car field on hand for the historic event that boasted a
payout of over $300,000 (Australian). Madsen was followed to the
finish line by defending World of Outlaws champion Steve Kinser from
Bloomington, IN. Sammy Swindell finished in third followed by Donny
Schatz and Daryn Pittman in fourth and fifth place, respectively. So
give round one to the Australians (albeit followed by four Americans)
with two more nights of racing to go. All five drivers rode on Hoosier
tires. Tires for the event were available from Hoosier's Australian
Distributor Max Dumesny via M.D. Imports. The Hoosier tire brand
dominated the racing as was the case all last season with the brand
winning 88 of the 92 World of Outlaws races contested. Hoosier's Todd
Seitz was also in Australia attending the event as part of his
"vacation".
