LAS
VEGAS, NV (March 5) -- Steve Kinser is now just one A-main win away
from the 500-win mark after sweeping both nights at The Dirt Track in
Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Thursday and Friday. Kinser notched #499
after leading all 30 laps in the feature race. The win was worth
$12,000 to the 48-year-old driver. Kinser was followed to the finish
line by Craig Dollansky who has finished second in the last three
races in the World of Outlaws Series. Donny Schatz rounded out the top
three after starting seventh. It was the third consecutive 1-2-3
finish for Hoosier-shod drivers. The victory also propelled Kinser
into the series points lead heading into this weekend's two-night show
at Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, TX where Steve Kinser is the
defending race winner.
Thirty-two cars were on hand Friday evening with four
cars locked into the Dash for their top finishes on Thursday night.
Steve Kinser, Craig Dollansky, Brian Paulus and Tim Shaffer finished
first through fourth, respectively, and were guaranteed a spot in the
A-main. This left 28 drivers to battle it out in qualifying--25 of
them on Hoosiers along with all of Thursday's top four
finishers.
Danny Lasoski set a new track record circling the
1/2-mile track in 13.719 seconds breaking the previous track record
set by Shane Stewart (also on Hoosiers) in 2003. Lasoski's
record-breaking lap had the 2001 series champion averaging 131.205 mph
around the Las Vegas oval. Lasoski was followed by Donny Schatz at
13.761 seconds. Amazingly, Team-Hoosier claimed 21 of the 22 fastest
times in qualifying.
Once again, all three preliminary heat races were won
by drivers using the Hoosier brand with Brian Brown winning the first
8-lap heat and Kraig Kinser and Daryn Pittman winning the final two
heats.
The Dash race had a Hoosier 1-2-3 finish with Steve
Kinser taking the 5-lap win followed by Craig Dollansky and last
year's race winner Tim Shaffer in second and third, respectively.
In the 30-lap feature, 22 of the 24 race starters rode
on Hoosier tires. Steve Kinser started on the pole and led all 30 laps
en route to his 499th A-main win. Kinser opted to run the 30-lapper
using a Hoosier RD12/D12 (LR/RR) combination while pocketing $12,000
for the win. For the third consecutive race, Craig Dollansky (D12/D12)
finished in second place while collecting $6,000. Seventh starting
Donny Schatz rounded out the list of top three finishers. Schatz made
his charge using the same rear drive combination as the race winner.
The final podium spot was worth $4,000.
Danny Lasoski finished in fourth followed by Tim
Shaffer in fifth giving Team-Hoosier a sweep of the top five spots in
the night's feature race. All told, the Hoosier brand was used by nine
of the top ten finishers. Other top-ten finishers on Hoosiers were
Shane Stewart, Brian Paulus, Kraig Kinser and Daryn Pittman in seventh
through tenth, respectively.
Steve Kinser now stands atop the World of Outlaws
driver standings with 507 points. Eight of the top ten drivers in the
standings currently compete using Hoosier racing tires.
Special thanks to Hoosier's Todd Seitz for providing
the details for this report and to David Allio for the image of Steve
Kinser.
