TALLADEGA,
AL (April 24) -- Jason Meyers captured his second World of Outlaws
Series feature win of the season leading all 35 laps in Saturday's
race at the Talladega Short Track. It was Meyers' seventh career win
in the series and gave the Hoosier brand its 16th win in 17 races
contested this season. The racing was again dominated by the purple
tire brand with the first 21 drivers to cross the finish line riding
on Hoosier tires.
Twenty-nine cars posted times in qualifying on the
1/3-mile track with 27 of them trusting the Hoosier brand. Steve
Kinser set fast time of the night circling the track in just 12.380
seconds. The defending series champion was followed by Tim Shaffer at
12.425 seconds. Craig Dollansky was third at 12.452 seconds.
Amazingly, the 25 fastest times in qualifying were recorded by drivers
using Hoosier tires, while the 11 fastest qualifiers all used
Hoosier's softest compound (D10) as their right rear tire choice.
There were three heat races contested which yielded
three more Hoosier-shod winners. Daryn Pittman won the first heat,
while Joey Saldana and Donny Schatz won the final two heats.
Danny Lasoski and Jason Meyers were the two Dash race
winners keeping the Hoosier brand undefeated on the night.
In the 35-lap feature, 22 of the 24 starters were on
Hoosier tires. Jason Meyers took the lead from the outside pole at the
drop of the green flag and never looked back. The 25-year-old Meyers
led all 35 circuits to capture the $10,000 winner's payout using a
94" D15 (LR) and a D15 (RR) combination.
Sixth starting Shane Stewart finished in second place
using a 94" D12/D15 set up. Stewart also collected $5,500 for the
runner-up spot, while Kraig Kinser took third after starting fourth.
Young Kinser pocketed $3,200 for the final podium position using the
same rear-drive combination as the race winner.
All told, the first 21 drivers to cross the finish
line were members of Team Hoosier. Rounding out the top ten were Danny
Lasoski in fourth followed by Joey Saldana, Steve Kinser, Donny
Schatz, Daryn Pittman, Travis Rilat and Tyler Walker in fifth through
tenth, respectively.
For the first time ever, the top 28 drivers in the
World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series standings ride on Hoosier tires.
Steve Kinser continues to lead the rankings with 1563 points followed
by Danny Lasoski with 1498 points. Kraig Kinser, Donny Schatz, Daryn
Pittman, Tim Shaffer, Paul McMahan, Jason Meyers, Craig Dollansky and
Jason Sides are third through tenth, respectively.
Saturday's race also marked the first event new
Hoosier World of Outlaws Track Service Manager Dave Campbell attended
alone after training under former WoO Track Service Manager Todd Seitz
who, after four years on the Outlaws trail brought home four
consecutive series championships, has undertaken his new role as
Product Manager for the highly anticipated Hoosier Kart and Quarter
Midget tire lines.
Special thanks to Dave Campbell for providing the
details contained in this report. If the results from Talladega are
any indication, Todd has left the series in good hands.
The next event scheduled is this Friday and Saturday
night at Knoxville Raceway.
