KNOXVILLE,
IA (April 25-26) -- Team-Hoosier dominated yet another weekend of
sprint racing in the O'Reilly World of Outlaws Series. This time, it
was a two-night show at Knoxville Raceway in Iowa. When the last
checkered flag dropped, the purple tire brand had swept the top eight
positions in the preliminary on Friday and the top 17 spots in the
finale on Saturday. It was the 11th straight 1-2-3 finish for the
Hoosier brand. Ironically, both nights ended with the same three
standing on the podium. Danny Lasoski was the winner both nights
followed by Donny Schatz and Steve Kinser. In the season-long points
battle, Team-Hoosier currently lays claim to the top 13 spots in the
series as it aims for its fourth consecutive championship.
PRELIMINARY
KNOXVILLE, IA (April 25) -- A huge 56-car field was on hand for the
opener at Knoxville's famous 1/2-mile facility with 45 of the
competitors electing to run the Hoosier brand. The remaining 11
drivers chose to race using one of the two other competing tire
brands. Donny Schatz captured fast time of the night with his 15.661
second lap as the top nine times were posted by drivers using Hoosier
tires.
All four heat race winners were also members of
Team-Hoosier. Craig Dollansky, Tim Shaffer, Travis Cram and Larry
Ball, Jr. were the four heat winners.
Both Dash winners also rode atop Hoosier tires. Kerry
Madsen and Danny Lasoski were the two Dash winners and would start the
25-lap feature on the front row.
In the 25-lap feature, 21 of the 24 starters rode on
Hoosier tires and only one of the two other competing tire brands was
able to transfer into the final race. The race began with Danny
Lasoski, a seven-time Knoxville Raceway track champion, taking the
lead from pole-sitter Kerry Madsen on the second lap. Lasoski, using a
pair of D12's, led the remainder of the way to take the win and
collect the $5,000 top prize in the Tony Stewart owned #20 J.D.
Byrider car. Donny Schatz and Steve Kinser finished second and third,
respectively. Each of them also used the same compound combination as
the race winner--a pair of Hoosier D12's.
Rounding out the all-Hoosier top eight was Tim
Shaffer, Brooke Tatnell, Travis Cram, Craig Dollansky and Kerry Madsen
in fourth through eighth, respectively. The Hoosier D12 compound was
the choice of the top eight finishers. The Hoosier brand was also on
18 of the first 19 drivers to cross the finish line.
FINALE
KNOXVILLE, IA (April 26) -- On Saturday the car count dropped to
55 drivers while the Team-Hoosier ranks swelled to 47 in number with
the remaining eight drivers opting to run one of the other two
non-Hoosier brands. Once again, the top time of the night was posted
by a driver on Hoosier tires. This time, it was Mark Kinser with a
time of 15.025 seconds. Kinser was followed closely by Daryn Pittman
and Terry McCarl--both are also members of Team-Hoosier.
The four heat race winners were Mark Kinser, Craig
Dollansky, Kerry Madsen and Chris Walraven. All four drivers compete
using the Hoosier brand.
In the sole Dash race contested, all eight entrants
rode atop the Hoosier brand. The finish, which would determine the
front four rows for the 30-lap finale, was Danny Lasoski, Donny
Schatz, Steve Kinser, Tim Shaffer, Daryn Pittman, Mark Kinser, Terry
McCarl and P.J. Chesson in first through eighth, respectively.
In the 30-lap feature, only two of the 24 starters
rode on a brand other than Hoosier. In the race, Danny Lasoski led
wire-to-wire using a pair of D12's en route to his second win in as
many nights. This win was worth $12,000 to the driver know as the
"Dude". Finishing in second place was Donny Schatz
(RD12/D12) followed by Steve Kinser (RD12/D12) in third. Schatz
collected $6,000 for the runner-up finish with Kinser pocketing
$4,000.
The final tally at the finish line had Team-Hoosier
capturing the top 17 spots in the 30-lap finale. Rounding out the
top-17 for Team-Hoosier were Mark Kinser, Tim Shaffer, Daryn Pittman,
Terry McCarl, Tyler Walker, Joey Saldana, Jeff Shepard, Brian Brown,
Craig Dollansky, Jason Sides, Skip Jackson, Jac Haudenschild, Jonathan
Allard and Kraig Kinser in fourth through seventeenth,
respectively.
For Team-Hoosier it was one of the most dominating
performances of the season. To date, the Hoosier brand has won 18 of
20 races in the World of Outlaws Series and has swept the podium the
last 11 races.
With the two wins, Danny Lasoski now leads Steve
Kinser by 40 points in the World of Outlaws Series standings. Craig
Dollansky remains in third place followed by Mark Kinser, Daryn
Pittman, Joey Saldana, Jeff Shepard, Jason Sides, Jac Haudenschild,
and Randy Hannagan in fourth through tenth, respectively. In fact, the
first 13 drivers at the top of the standings now ride on the Hoosier
brand. Shane Stewart, Donny Schatz and Jeremy Campbell round out the
top thirteen.
The series will resume racing this Friday at Nebraska
Raceway Park where the Outlaws will put on a two-day show.
