Knoxville Raceway was the latest stop to encounter rains which cancelled half of the scheduled program. Friday's preliminary was completed with 16-time Series Champion Steve Kinser capturing the 25-lap win and rocketing into the series points lead. Rain forced the cancellation of Saturday's race with points awarded based on a single race event. Kinser now leads the series standings over Danny Lasoski by 12 points. Lasoski finished runner-up in Friday's race.

PENNZOIL WORLD OF OUTLAWS REPORT:
A huge 54-car field posted times at famous Knoxville Raceway Friday evening--33 (or 61%) on Hoosier tires. Defending Series Champion Danny Lasoski set fast time around the 1/2-mile oval when he circled the track in a scant 15.020 seconds.

Three of the four preliminary heat race winners were drivers using Hoosier tires. Blake Feese, Craig Dollansky and Paul McMahan each won their respective 8-lap heats for Team-Hoosier.

Each of the 5-lap dash races were also won by Hoosier-shod drivers. In fact, Team-Hoosier finished 1-2-3-4 in both dashes. Kerry Madsen won the first dash followed by Steve Kinser, Danny Lasoski and Mark Kinser. Danny Wood took the win in the second dash and was followed to the stripe by Craig Dollansky, Tim Shaffer and Ricky Logan.

In the 25-lap feature, 19 of the 24-car field (or nearly 80%) were on Hoosier tires. At the drop of the green flag, Craig Dollansky shot from fourth to first to lead the first lap. Dollansky led until lap five, when a third starting Steve Kinser moved into the race lead. Both Dollansky and Kinser used a pair of Hoosier D12's for the 25-lap race.

Kinser led the remainder of the way to collect the win and pocket the $10,000 prize. Finishing in second place was Danny Lasoski who was also using a pair of D12's.

Other Team-Hoosier drivers finishing in the top ten were: Tim Shaffer (RD12/D12), fourth; Kerry Madsen (D10/D12), fifth; Paul McMahan, sixth; Donny Schatz, eighth; Daryn Pittman, ninth; and Terry McCarl, tenth. McMahan, Schatz, Pittman and McCarl each opted to ride on a Hoosier RD12/D12 combination for the 25-lap event.

All told, 15 of the top 17 finishers rode on Hoosier tires.

Steve Kinser now stands on top of the series standings with 2338 points. Kinser is followed in the standings by six more Hoosier-shod drivers in sprint racing's premier series. Danny Lasoski (2326), Mark Kinser (2318), Craig Dollansky (2213), Tim Shaffer (2200), Joey Saldana (2161) and Brad Furr (2153) complete the list of the top seven drivers in the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series.

The series resumes racing this Friday at Nebraska Raceway Park where Team-Hoosier was undefeated in three Outlaw races last season.

WORLD OF OUTLAWS GUMOUT REPORT

(photo courtesy of Tim Shumaker and hoseheads.com)MECHANICSBURG, PA (April 26) -- Todd Shaffer won at Williams Grove Speedway in a World of Outlaws Gumout sanctioned event on Friday night. The night of racing was dominated by Hoosier tires--with the top 14 drivers to cross the finish line in the 30-lap feature using the Hoosier tire brand.

Thirty-six cars were on hand for qualifying with 30 riding on Hoosier tires, as nine of the ten fastest times were recorded by Hoosier-shod drivers.

All four heat races were won by drivers on Hoosier tires. Mike Erdley, Keith Kauffman, Sean Michael and Todd Shaffer each won their respective heats.

Both dash races were also won by drivers using Hoosier rubber. Sean Michael won the first dash, while Keith Kauffman won the second dash.

In the 30-lap feature, Todd Shaffer using a Hoosier D12/D15 combination won the race. He was followed to the finish line by 13 more Hoosier-shod drivers. Dave Ely, Shane Stewart, Fred Rahmer, P.J. Chesson, Lance Dewease, Tyler Walker, Mike Erdley, Cris Eash, Todd Hestor, Jason Sides, Rick Lafferty, Len Thompson and Brook Weibley finished second through 14th, respectively, for Team-Hoosier.

In both stand alone Gumout events this season, Team-Hoosier has swept the top-eight at Lone Star Speedway and the top-14 at Williams Grove Speedway to get the season off to a strong start.

Saturday's Gumout sanctioned race at Port Royal Speedway appeared headed the same direction as the first two Gumout events with Tyler Walker setting a new track record in every event he competed in before rain forced the postponement of the feature until August 22. Before the rains came, Team-Hoosier had captured fast time with Tyler Walker who set a new track record of 15.778 seconds, as 13 of the top 14 times were posted by Hoosier-shod drivers. Also, all four heats and both dashes were also won by Team-Hoosier drivers before rains forced the event to be completed at a later date.

The next stop for the Gumout Series is May 4, at Illinois' LaSalle Speedway.

Hoosier engineer Jon Huffman attended the race and reported the details for this report.
