DELMAR,
DE (May 13) -- The East Coast swing in the O'Reilly World of Outlaws
Series got off on the right foot Tuesday night when the Hoosier brand,
led by Steve Kinser, swept the entire night of racing in front of a
packed house at Delaware International Speedway. After capturing the
11 fastest times in qualifying, Team-Hoosier then won all three heat
races and both Dash races before taking nine of the top ten positions
in the 30-lap feature. Following Kinser to the finish line was Joey
Saldana in second and Greg Hodnett in third. The podium sweep for the
purple tire brand was the 16th
in a row and 18th overall in 25 nights of racing this season.
Twenty-five cars were on hand Tuesday night with 20
drivers opting to qualify using Hoosier tires. The remaining five
drivers were split among the other two competing tire manufacturers.
When it was over, the 11 fastest times were posted by drivers using
the Hoosier brand. Daryn Pittman was fast qualifier with his lap of
15.677 seconds around the 1/2-mile clay oval. Danny Lasoski was second
followed by Fred Rahmer, Paul McMahan, Greg Hodnett, Lance Dewease,
Steve Kinser, Joey Saldana, Donny Schatz, Jason Sides and Todd Shaffer
in third through eleventh, respectively.
There were three 8-lap heat races contested. The three
winners were Craig Dollansky, Curt Michael and Jeff Busby.
In the two 5-lap Dash races, Steve Kinser won the
first, while Joey Saldana won the final Dash keeping Team-Hoosier's
record perfect entering the 30-lap feature.
In the feature, Joey Saldana took the early race lead
from his inside front-row starting position. Saldana, using a pair of
RD12's (LR/RR), maintained the lead until lap 17, when Steve Kinser
and his RD12/D12 combination made a pass for the lead. Kinser led the
remainder of the way to take the win. The victory was Kinser's sixth
feature win and eighth overall in 25 nights of racing in the
series.
Following Kinser across the stripe was Joey Saldana in
second and Greg Hodnett (D10/RD12) in third. Danny Lasoski, Daryn
Pittman, Donny Schatz, Craig Dollansky and Fred Rahmer finished fourth
through eighth, respectively, for Team-Hoosier. All totaled, the
Hoosier brand took nine of the top ten spots in the feature with Paul
McMahan securing a tenth place finish.
Other race notes: Joey Saldana flipped in practice but
was able to make repairs for qualifying before finishing runner-up in
the feature. Lance Dewease was in fourth place in the feature when his
motor expired relegating the member of the Pennsylvania Posse to an
18th place finish.
The series will take a day off before returning to
action on Thursday for two nights of racing at famous Williams Grove
Speedway. Thursday's race begins a grueling four consecutive nights of
racing in which the Outlaws regulars will do battle against the
talented members of the Pennsylvania Posse.
