MECHANICSBURG,
PA (May 16) -- Steve Kinser led just one lap in the Pennzoil World of
Outlaws 25-lap opener at Williams Grove Speedway Thursday evening, but
it was the final lap and gave him the win over Tyler Walker. The
driver of the #11 Quaker State sprinter made a last lap pass in heavy
traffic to overtake Walker for the win. Walker, the current Gumout
Series points leader, finished a close second as Team-Hoosier finished
1-2 in the night's feature race.
The 36-car field was comprised of Outlaw regulars
along with many of Pennsylvania's heavy-hitters who compete weekly on
the Williams Grove 1/2-mile. A total of 33 of the 36 drivers on hand
elected to compete on Hoosier tires. Tim Shaffer was fast qualifier at
17.610 seconds with Joey Saldana and Tyler Walker posting the second
and third fastest times.
All four preliminary heat races were won by drivers
using Hoosier tires. Todd Gracey, Sean Michael, Lance Dewease and
Keith Kauffman each won their respective heats as the "PA
Posse" made their presence known.
Craig Dollansky was a dash winner using a pair of
Hoosier D10's, while Brad Furr captured the win in the 12-lap B
feature.
In the 25-lap feature, Tyler Walker took the lead on
lap 9 and looked to be headed for his second win of the season when
lapped traffic allowed 16-time Series Champion Steve Kinser to move
into the lead on the final lap to capture the win. Both Walker and
Kinser used a pair of Hoosier D12's in the 25-lap race.
Team-Hoosier captured 11 of the top 12 finishing
positions. Completing the list of top finishing Hoosier-shod cars
were: Daryn Pittman, fourth; Danny Lasoski, fifth; Lance Dewease,
sixth; Donny Schatz, seventh; P.J. Chesson, eighth; Sean Michael,
ninth; Craig Dollansky, tenth; Joey Saldana, eleventh; and Keith
Kauffman, twelfth.
Hoosier Open Wheel Dirt Product Manager Neil Cowman is
in Pennsylvania attending four nights of racing. After watching Fred
Rahmer win the special 50th Anniversary Show at Lincoln Speedway
Wednesday night, Cowman then traveled to Williams Grove to watch the
Outlaws and Posse do battle. Both races ended with Hoosier victories.
Weather permitting, the racing will resume tonight at
Williams Grove. The series then travels to Hagerstown, MD for a one
night show on Saturday.
Danny Lasoski currently leads the points chase with
2955 markers followed closely by Steve Kinser with 2949. Mark Kinser
is securely in third with 2899 points. Craig Dollansky, Tim Shaffer,
Joey Saldana and Brad Furr round out fourth through seventh,
respectively, as Team-Hoosier continues to hold the top seven spots in
the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series standings.
