SARVER,
PA (May 21) -- Chalk up number 19 for Team-Hoosier. When Donny Schatz
won last night's 35-lap O'Reilly World of Outlaws feature at
Lernerville Speedway and was followed to the line by Lance Dewease and
Tyler Walker, the trio gave the Hoosier brand its 19th consecutive
1-2-3 finish in the series. It was yet another dominating performance
by the purple tire brand in the state of Pennsylvania with Hoosier
tires claiming the top 12 times in qualifying and the top 11 positions
in the night's feature race. The finish was the 21st time Team-Hoosier
has swept the podium this season in 28 nights of racing. The Hoosier
brand has also won 26 of the 28 races contested to date.
There were 39 cars entered in qualifying with 29 of
them riding on Hoosiers. The remaining 10 drivers opted to ride on one
of the other two tire brands on hand. Hoosier's D10 compound proved to
be just the ticket in qualifying when Steve Kinser claimed the top
time with his lap of 12.540 seconds around the short Lernerville 1/2-mile.
Kinser was followed by Daryn Pittman, Lance Dewease, Tyler Walker,
Greg Hodnett, Danny Lasoski, Ed Lynch Jr., Donny Schatz, Dale Blaney,
Mark Kinser, Paul McMahan and Jason Johnson in second through 12th
using the Hoosier brand.
Four preliminary heat races were contested with three
winners being members of Team-Hoosier. Joey Saldana, Jason Sides and Fred
Rahmer each won their respective heats using a pair of D10's.
Both Dash races, which determined the starting eight
rows in the night's feature race, were also won by drivers using Hoosier
tires. Greg Hodnett won the first Dash and thus the pole in the feature,
while Donny Schatz won the second Dash and the right to start
alongside Hodnett.
In the feature, 21 of the 26 starters rode on Hoosier
tires with each of the other two competing tire brands being used by
the remaining five drivers. When the green flag dropped, Greg Hodnett
took the early race lead from the pole position. Hodnett led until lap
12, when outside pole-sitter Donny Schatz moved into the race lead.
Schatz, riding atop a Hoosier RD12/D12 (LR/RR) combination led the
remainder of the way to capture the win. Lance Dewease and Tyler
Walker finished second and third, respectively, using the same
compound combination as the race winner.
The final rundown had Danny Lasoski (D10/RD12)
finishing fourth followed by Daryn Pittman (D10/RD12), Steve Kinser,
Mark Kinser, Joey Saldana, Dale Blaney, Sammy Swindell and Jason Sides
in fifth through eleventh, respectively. In addition to sweeping the
top eleven spots in the latest World of Outlaws race, the Hoosier
brand also claimed 15 of the top 16 spots with Ed Lynch Jr., Greg
Hodnett, Jason Meyers and Paul McMahan finishing 13th through 16th,
respectively.
The Hoosier brand was impressive on the Lernerville
track lapping all but one of the non-Hoosier-shod cars in the 25-lap
feature.
Special thanks to Hoosier engineer Jon Huffman who
attended the event and provided the details for this report.
