CONCORD,
NC (May 24) -- While rain cancelled Friday's preliminary, Saturday's
race was contested and a winner declared in a rain-shortened
A-feature. In the end, Blake Feese captured his first career A-feature
win in the O'Reilly World of Outlaws Series over the weekend at The
Dirt Track at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Feese led yet another 1-2-3
finish for the Hoosier brand and extended Team-Hoosier's consecutive
streak in the elite sprint car series to 20 in-a-row. Hoosier tires
have been the brand used by 27 of the 29 winners in the series to
date.
With Thirty cars entered in qualifying, 25 of
them selected the Hoosier brand and the remaining five drivers opted
to take their chances on one of the other two competing tire brands.
Danny Lasoski set fast time of the night with a lap of 12.269 seconds
around the 4/10-mile track as the Hoosier brand accounted for the top
12 times in qualifying. Steve Kinser, Kraig Kinser, Daryn Pittman,
Donny Schatz, Joey Saldana, Jason Meyers, Blake Feese, Mark Kinser,
Jason Sides, Paul McMahan and Curt Michael qualified second through twelfth,
respectively.
Three heat races were contested with two of them won
by drivers using Hoosier tires. Tyler Walker and Sammy Swindell were
the two Hoosier-shod heat race winners.
Both Dash races were also won by drivers on Hoosier
tires. Blake Feese won the first Dash, while Jason Meyers won the
second dash. Feese was driving the Ritchart #3F car but will drive Guy
Forbrook's car next week that was previously driven by Jac
Haudenschild, while Meyers is filling in for the injured Craig
Dollansky in the Karavan Motorsports #7.
In the scheduled 25-lap feature, 20 of the 24 starters
rode on Hoosier tires, while only one of the other two competing tire
brands would be represented in the night's final race. At the drop of
the green flag, Blake Feese and his RD12/D12 set-up took command from
the pole. Feese led the first 22 laps and that's when the rains came.
The race was then declared complete with Feese claiming his first-ever
A-feature win in the series. Feese was followed by Jason Meyers in
second and Jason Sides in third. Both Meyers and Sides also used the
same compound combination as the race winner.
The final rundown had Team-Hoosier claiming the top 13
positions in the feature. Danny Lasoski, Joey Saldana, Sammy Swindell,
Tim Shaffer, Donny Schatz, Steve Kinser, Paul McMahan, Daryn Pittman,
Mark Kinser and Randy Hannagan rounded out the list of top-13
finishers on Hoosier tires.
Danny Lasoski currently leads the World of Outlaws
Series standings with 3506 points followed closely by Steve Kinser
with 3449 points. Daryn Pittman, Joey Saldana and Mark Kinser round
out the top five in the rankings. All five drivers ride on Hoosier
tires.
Next up for the series, will be Monday's rescheduled
race at Lebanon Valley Speedway on Tuesday night. The race was
rescheduled due to persistent rain that has affected the region
recently.
