MECHANICSBURG,
PA (May 27) -- After a 45 minute rain delay, 4-time Williams Grove
Speedway track champion Fred Rahmer defended his home turf Thursday
night winning the World of Outlaws Series 25-lap feature at the track.
Rahmer, the 1986 Rookie of the Year at the facility, bested the 40-car
field in the first of two nights of racing at the 1/2-mile track. All
but one of the cars on hand used Hoosier tires during the event.
Rahmer was followed to the line by defending World of Outlaws champion
Steve Kinser in second and Jason Sides in third as the Hoosier brand
was on the first 20 cars to cross the finish line in the night's
feature race. For Rahmer, a regular weekly racer at both Williams
Grove Speedway and Lincoln Speedway, it was his 300th sprint car win
of his career and his 400th feature win overall.
In qualifying, Steve Kinser set fast time of the night
circling the Williams Grove track in 16.675 seconds. He was followed
by Brian Brown, Paul McMahan, Sammy Swindell and Kraig Kinser.
The four heat race winners were Craig Dollansky, Erin
Crocker, Donny Schatz and Greg Hodnett. All four raced to their
respective wins on Hoosier tires.
Each of the Dash races were also won by Hoosier-shod
drivers including Jonathan Allard and Fred Rahmer. All 16 drivers in
the two Dash races rode on Hoosier tires.
In the feature, all 24 starters rode on Hoosier tires.
At the start of the race, Fred Rahmer immediately jumped into the race
lead from the outside pole position using a Hoosier 94" RD12/RD15
(LR/RR) combination. Rahmer was in command of the race until lap 23,
when Danny Lasoski passed him for the lead. But before Lasoski could
complete the lap, Brian Brown spun in front of the leaders collecting
Lasoski and Jonathan Allard who was running third at the time handing
the lead back to Rahmer. From there, Rahmer would not be challenged
again winning the 25-lap race by a straightaway.
Fifth starting Steve Kinser finished in second place
using a 94" RD12/D12 rear tire combination. Jason Sides took the
final podium spot after starting fourth using a 92" RD12/D12 with
Donny Schatz and Paul McMahan finishing fourth and fifth,
respectively.
Rounding out the top ten was Craig Dollansky in sixth
followed by Kenny Jacobs, Mark Smith, Daryn Pittman and Brian Paulus.
After his historic win, Rahmer commented, "This
is pretty awesome. I got my 300th sprint car win last night, and
counting the modifieds tonight makes 400 feature wins, and it couldn't
have happened at a better time. I got lucky there--Danny (Lasoski) was
faster in traffic, and he got by me, then I saw that car spun in turn
3, and I bumped the wall trying to get by, and Danny got taken out.
Sometimes when it's your time to win, it just works out. I gotta thank
my guys: they work really hard on this thing, and J&J chassis, Don
Ott engines, VRP shocks, Hoosier tires. I couldn't ask for any
better car owners than Joe and Peggy (Harz). I know this means a lot
for them, too. You know when you race the Outlaws that you have to be
pretty good in time trials, and tonight being 12th ended up working
out for us to get on the front row of the dash, and winning tonight
keeps us from having to worry about it tomorrow."
Weather permitting, the finale will be contested
tonight (Friday) at Williams Grove Speedway.
Our thanks go out to former Hoosier World of Outlaws
Track Service Manager Todd Seitz for reporting the details used in
this report. Todd was in Pennsylvania assisting new Hoosier World of
Outlaws Track Service Manager Dave Campbell as the series is in the
midst of a grueling 11-race schedule in just a 16-day span.
