IN (May 24, 25, 27) -- The extended Memorial Day weekend brought about
three more victories in Pennzoil World of Outlaws competition by
drivers on Hoosier tires. Greg Hodnett won both nights at North
Carolina's Lowe's Motor Speedway to begin the weekend, while Steve
Kinser won the single-night event at Lebanon Valley Speedway in New
York. The three victories extended Team-Hoosier's Pennzoil World of
Outlaws record to 28 wins in 31 races.
LOWE'S MOTOR SPEEDWAY - PRELIMINARY
CONCORD, NC (May 24) -- Greg Hodnett captured the 25-lap win in the
opener at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Friday night. The former series
regular collected the win and the $5,000 winner's purse for his first
Outlaw win of the season.
The 30-car field was comprised of 22 cars on Hoosier
rubber with the remaining eight cars split equally among the two other
competing tire brands.
The six fastest times in qualifying were posted by
Hoosier-shod drivers. Joey Saldana was fast qualifier at 12.609
seconds followed by Danny Lasoski, Steve Kinser, Danny Wood, Daryn
Pittman and Donny Schatz in second through sixth, respectively.
All three preliminary heat races resulted in
Team-Hoosier wins. Tim Shaffer, Greg Hodnett and Mark Kinser each won
their respective 8-lap heat races.
Greg Hodnett won the first dash which earned him the
right to start from the pole in the 25-lap feature. Brad Furr also
captured the win in the B-feature on Hoosier tires.
In the 25-lap feature, Greg Hodnett took the early
race lead as the green flag dropped. Hodnett relinquished the lead
briefly only to regain it for good on lap 20 en route to the win.
Steve Kinser finished runner-up for the 25th 1-2 finish of the season
for Team-Hoosier. Kinser was using a pair of Hoosier D15's while
Hodnett was using a Hoosier test tire on his right rear.
Eight of the first nine drivers to cross the finish line
were using the Hoosier brand. Shane Stewart finished in fourth place,
followed by Craig Dollansky, Mark Kinser, Danny Lasoski, Tyler Walker,
and Joey Saldana in fifth through ninth, respectively.
LOWE'S MOTOR SPEEDWAY - FINALE
CONCORD, NC (May 25) -- Greg Hodnett earned his first career sweep in
Pennzoil World of Outlaws competition after winning the finale at
Lowe's Motor Speedway on Saturday night. After winning Friday's $5,000
preliminary, Hodnett came from behind for the second consecutive night
en route to capturing the win and the sweep. Saturday's victory was
worth $20,000 to the driver of the Apple Motorsports #12.
With Friday's top four finishers receiving a pass into
Saturday's A-feature, that left 25 cars to post times in
qualifying--19 of them on Hoosier tires. Danny Lasoski was fast
qualifier at 13.667 seconds followed by Craig Dollansky and Tyler
Walker, as the top 12 times in qualifying were posted by drivers
riding on Hoosier tires.
For the second consecutive night, all three
preliminary heat races were won by drivers on the Hoosier brand when
Danny Wood, Mark Kinser and Brad Furr each won their respective heat
races.
The single dash race resulted in a 1-2-3 Team-Hoosier
finish. Steve Kinser took the win followed by Greg Hodnett and Shane
Stewart. The finish would also be where the three drivers would start
the night's 30-lap feature.
In the A-feature, Greg Hodnett got the jump from his
outside pole position to lead the first three circuits. Steve Kinser
also led the race's middle stages before Hodnett regained the lead for
good on lap 25, en route to the win. Hodnett was using a D15/D20
set-up for the $20,000 victory.
All told, 12 of the top 13 drivers to cross the finish line in
the feature were riding on the Hoosier brand. Donny Schatz, Steve
Kinser, Shane Stewart, Craig Dollansky, Joey Saldana, Tyler Walker,
Danny Lasoski, Danny Wood, Mark Kinser, Daryn Pittman and Tim Shaffer
finished third through 13th for Team-Hoosier.
LEBANON VALLEY SPEEDWAY
WEST LEBANON, NY (May 27) -- Steve Kinser captured the Memorial Day
win capping off another perfect weekend of racing for teams riding on
the Hoosier brand. The win was Kinser's seventh main event win (eighth
overall) in the series this season and was worth $10,000.
Twenty-two cars were on hand to post qualifying
times--14 on Hoosiers. Lance Dewease was fast qualifier at 17.470
seconds followed by another driver on Hoosier rubber, Joey Saldana.
All three heats and both dashes were won by
Hoosier-shod drivers. Mark Kinser, Randy Hannagan and Danny Lasoski
each won their respective heat races, while Steve Kinser and Danny
Lasoski won their respective dashes.
In the 25-lap feature, Danny Lasoski looked to be on
his way to victory when mechanical problems ended any hope for a win
by the defending series champion. Lasoski's mechanical woes had Steve
Kinser assuming the race lead on lap 20. Kinser led the remainder of
the way to capture the win. Kinser elected to run the 25-lap race on a
Hoosier D12/D15 set-up.
Craig Dollansky collected the runner-up spot on a pair
of D15's while collecting the $5,500 second place payout. Lance
Dewease, using the same compound combination as the race winner,
rounded out the top three.
The top six drivers to cross the stripe in the feature
were outfitted on the Hoosier brand. Donny Schatz, Daryn Pittman and
Tim Shaffer finished fourth through sixth, respectively. All told, ten
of the top eleven finishers were using Hoosier tires. Joey Saldana,
Mark Kinser, Fred Rahmer and Randy Hannagan finished eighth through
eleventh, respectively, for the purple team.
The three wins now extends Team-Hoosier's Pennzoil
World of Outlaws Series record to 28 wins in 31 races contested to
date. The series resumes tonight at Rolling Wheels Raceway in
Elbridge, NY.

followed by Danny Lasoski, Mark Kinser, Craig Dollansky, Joey Saldana,
Tim Shaffer and Donny Schatz in second through seventh,
respectively--all of whom compete on Hoosier tires.
