LAKEVILLE,
IN (June 4-5) -- It was hard to believe, but when Danny Lasoski
captured the 30-lap feature at Sharon Speedway on Friday, it was the
2001 World of Outlaws Series champion's first victory of the year.
After finishing second four times this season, "The Dude"
came from fourth place to win the $10,000-to-win race passing Joey
Saldana with 11 laps remaining. The series then traveled west
300-miles across Ohio to Eldora Speedway to complete a one-night
program with Lasoski leading all 30 laps in the feature race. The
Hoosier brand had another stellar outing with all but one competitor
riding on the Hoosier brand in both feature races. On Friday, the
purple tire brand was on the first 22 sprint cars to cross the line at
Hartford Speedway. At Eldora, Team Hoosier finished 1-25 leaving last
place (26th place) to the lone car not on the Hoosier brand. It was
the 23rd consecutive 1-2-3 finish for the Hoosier brand in the World
of Outlaws Sprint Car Series this year.
SHARON SPEEDWAY
HARTFORD, OH (June 4) -- Thirty-two were entered to compete in
Friday's 30-lap World of Outlaws Series feature at Sharon Speedway
with 31 posting times in qualifying. Of the 31 cars in the pits, all
but two rode atop the Hoosier brand. Steve Kinser was the fastest
qualifier on the 3/8-mile track with a lap of 12.903 seconds (104.627
mph). The current series points leader was followed by his son Kraig
who circled the track in 12.916 seconds. The pair were the only
drivers to break the 13-second barrier in qualifying with Dale Blaney,
Danny Lasoski and Ed Lynch, Jr. rounding out the top five. The Hoosier
brand was on the top eight cars in qualifying and 22 of the 23 fastest
qualifiers.
All three heat race winners rode on Hoosiers with Joey
Saldana, Jason Sides and Brian Brown each capturing wins in their
respective heat races.
Paul McMahan and Joey Saldana were the two Dash
winners to keep the Team Hoosier record perfect to that point.
There were 26 starters in the feature race with 25
riding atop the Hoosier brand. Joey Saldana, using a D12/RD15 (LR/RR)
combination, took the lead at the drop of the green flag. Saldana led
through lap 19, before Danny Lasoski made the pass for the lead after
starting fourth. Lasoski, on a Hoosier D10/RD12 combination, led the
final 11 circuits to capture his first win of the season in the
series. Joey Saldana settled for second winning $5,500, with
pole-sitter Paul McMahan rounding out the top three. McMahan was also
using a D12/RD15 rear tire set up.
Amazingly, the Hoosier brand was used by the first 25
drivers to cross the line in the feature. Rounding out the top ten
were, Dale Blaney in fourth, Craig Dollansky, Ed Lynch, Jr., Steve
Kinser, Donny Schatz, Chad Kemenah and Daryn Pittman in fifth through
tenth, respectively.
In 2003, Lasoski won the second race of the season en
route to collecting 16 total wins during the year before finishing
runner-up to Steve Kinser in the championship battle.
ELDORA SPEEDWAY
ROSSBURG, OH (June 5) -- Thirty-three cars were on hand Saturday at
Eldora Speedway battling for their chance at the $10,000 winner's
payout. For the second consecutive night, all but two of the
qualifiers rode on Hoosier tires. When everyone had taken their turn
on the track, Mark Kinser was the top qualifier as Team Hoosier nabbed
the 17 fastest times in qualifying. Kinser was followed by Daryn
Pittman, Joey Saldana, Jac Haudenschild and Dale Blaney.
Hoosier tires were on all four heat race winners
including Brock Mays (D12), Jimmy Stinson (D10), Erin Crocker (D10),
and Brandon Wimmer (D10).
Mark Kinser won the first Dash (RD12), while Danny
Lasoski (D12) captured the final Dash race.
In the 30-lap feature all but one of the 24 race
starters rode on Hoosier tires. At the race start, sixth qualifying
Danny Lasoski got the jump over fellow front row starter Mark Kinser
for the lead. From there, Lasoski, using a D12/D15 combination, led
all 30 laps en route to collecting his second win in as many nights.
The win was worth another $10,000 to the former series champion. Mark
Kinser finished in second place using a pair of D12's, while Jac
Haudenschild motored his way to a third place finish after starting
tenth. Haudenschild used the same rear compound combination as the
race winner.
Steve Kinser finished in fourth place followed by
Craig Dollansky, Jason Meyers, Jonathan Allard, Chad Kemenah, Jason
Sides and Dean Jacobs in fifth through tenth. Jason Sides passed 15
cars to finish ninth and Dean Jacobs passed 11 cars on his way to
cracking the top ten.
In the winner's circle Lasoski commented, "I
couldn't do this without my car owner, Tony Stewart, and my crew chief
Jimmy Carr, and Todd Splain and Richie Wagner, along with those great Hoosier
tires on this Eagle chassis."
With the two wins, Danny Lasoski now closes to within
99 points of Steve Kinser in the World of Outlaws driver standings.
Donny Schatz is in third followed by Paul McMahan and Craig Dollansky.
Currently, the top 18 drivers in the rankings compete on Hoosier
tires.
The series is back in action this Wednesday night at
Illinois' LaSalle Speedway for a one-night show and again on Friday
for another one-night show at Hartford Speedway Park in Michigan.
