EAGLE,
NE (June 19-20) -- After rain pushed back the start of the two-night
Eagle Nationals to Saturday, Danny Lasoski continued his push to stake
his claim on the top spot in the World of Outlaws Series by winning
both nights of the annual event. Lasoski took the lead from Mark
Kinser on lap 16, en route to collecting the opening night win after
starting on the outside pole. On Sunday, Lasoski led flag-to-flag in
the 40-lap feature. Amazingly, after going the first 27 races of the
season without a win, the 2001 series champion has now won five of the
last six races in the series. Lasoski continues to chase current
points leader Steve Kinser for the top spot in the driver rankings.
Kinser finished runner-up both nights, while Brooke Tatnell finished
third each night as well. Hoosier tires were used by the top 20
drivers in the preliminary race, while the top 18 drivers in Sunday's
A-main rode on Hoosiers. Currently, the top 16 drivers in the World of
Outlaws Series standings ride on the Hoosier brand.
PRELIMINARY RACE
EAGLE, NE (June 19) -- Thirty cars were on hand Saturday night at
Eagle Raceway's 1/3-mile dirt oval with 26 of them riding atop the
Hoosier tire brand. The four remaining drivers were split evenly among
the other two competing tire brands. Sammy Swindell was the top
qualifier with a time of 11.309 seconds. Joey Saldana was second
followed by Brooke Tatnell, Paul McMahan and Jason Sides as Team
Hoosier laid claim to the top 18 spots in qualifying.
Jonathan Allard, Jason Meyers and Donny Schatz were
the three Hoosier-shod heat race winners. Mark Kinser won the first
dash and Danny Lasoski won the second and final Dash to keep the
purple tire brand's record unblemished.
In the feature, Mark Kinser took the lead from the
pole using a 92" RD12/D12 (LR/RR) combination. Kinser's lead
lasted until lap 16, when Danny Lasoski took over at the point.
Lasoski, using a 92" D10/RD12 set up, led the remainder of the
way to capture his fourth win in the last five races. The win was
worth $5,000 to the #20 driver. Steve Kinser took runner-up honors
after starting fifth. Kinser opted to run the 30-lap feature using a
94" D12/RD12 combination. Sixth starting Brooke Tatnell finished
in third place using a pair of RD12's.
Mark Kinser finished in fourth place followed by Tim
Shaffer, Donny Schatz, Joey Saldana, Jason Meyers, Jason Sides and
Craig Dollansky. The first 20 drivers to cross the finish line all
rode on Hoosier tires.
A-MAIN RACE
EAGLE, NE (June 20) -- With the top four drivers from Saturday's
preliminary race locked into Sunday's Dash, that left 29 cars to
qualify on night two of the Eagle Nationals--27 of them on Hoosiers.
The other two competing tire brands were each represented by a single
driver. Sammy Swindell again claimed top qualifier honors after circling
the track in 11.858 seconds. The series veteran was followed by Craig
Dollansky and Paul McMahan as Team Hoosier swept the top 19 times in
qualifying.
Donny Schatz, Jason Meyers and Paul McMahan were the
three heat race winners, with Danny Lasoski capturing the win in the
night's Dash race.
In the 40-lap feature, Danny Lasoski led flag-to-flag
for the win using a 92" D15/D20 combination. Steve Kinser, using
a 94" D15/D20, finished in second place (after starting third)
for the second consecutive night followed by Brooke Tatnell in third.
Tatnell, using a 92" D20/HARD set up, moved from sixth to take
the final podium spot.
Terry McCarl finished in fourth place followed by
Jonathan Allard, Daryn Pittman, Kerry Madsen, Brandon Wimmer, Tim
Shaffer and Sammy Swindell. The first 18 drivers to cross the finish
line were members of Team Hoosier.
Danny Lasoski moves closer to the top spot in the
standings with the two wins. Lasoski is now 124 points behind leader
Steve Kinser in the rankings. Donny Schatz is in third place followed
by Jason Meyers and Craig Dollansky. Currently, the top 16 drivers in
the rankings ride on Hoosier tires.
