DODGE
CITY, KS (June 22) -- Sammy Swindell crossed the finish line ahead of defending World of Outlaws Series champion Steve Kinser, but it
was Kinser taking the win after Swindell was disqualified for being
underweight at the scales after the race at Dodge City Raceway. Kinser
was followed to the line by Danny Lasoski and Tim Shaffer. The evening
had 28 drivers on hand with all 28 electing to ride on Hoosier tires.
It was the fourth race (of 34) this season where every competitor in
the pits rode on the purple tire brand. Kinser's win gave Team Hoosier
it's 33rd consecutive win and 28th straight 1-2-3 finish in the
series.
Sammy Swindell was the top qualifier setting a new
single-lap record around the fast 3/8-mile clay oval. Swindell circled
the track in 12.876 seconds. Brooke Tatnell was second followed by
Jason Sides, Tim Shaffer and Terry McCarl.
Erin Crocker was the first heat winner, while Joey
Saldana and Craig Dollansky were winners in the second and third
heats. Tim Shaffer was the first Dash race winner with Danny Lasoski
claiming the win in the final Dash.
In the 35-lap feature, Danny Lasoski took the lead at
the drop of the green flag from the outside pole position. The 2001
series champion led until lap 13, when fifth starting Sammy Swindell
took the lead. Swindell's lead was interrupted for just one lap (18)
when Steve Kinser momentarily took the lead. Swindell took the
checkered flag. But when his car was on the scales, it was determined
the veteran's car was under the minimum weight limit. The infraction
resulted in Swindell being scored 24th (last place) for the
race.
Steve Kinser, who crossed the line less than one
second behind Swindell, was given the win. Kinser used a 94"
D15/D20 (LR/RR) combination. Danny Lasoski claimed second place using
a 92" D12/D15 set up. In third place was Tim Shaffer using a
92" D12/D20 rear tire combination.
Kraig Kinser was fourth followed by Donny Schatz,
Brooke Tatnell, Brandon Wimmer, Jason Meyers, Craig Dollansky and
Brian Paulus.
Steve Kinser remains atop the World of Outlaws Series
driver standings 120 points ahead of Danny Lasoski. Donny Schatz,
Jason Meyers and Craig Dollansky round out the top five in the
rankings.
The World of Outlaws Series is back in action this
Friday for a two-night program at famous Knoxville (IA) Raceway.
Hoosier Open Wheel Dirt Product Manager Neil Cowman also will be in Iowa
attending the event.
